There's a very obvious theme of vibrant colours in these promotional materials. Sign of things to come... and to be done with class, I'm sure.

With all the media talk/hype about traditional computers with "traditional OS's" going away and being replaced by simple un-editable closed system OS's running on tablets, isn't it a little misleading to lead all these young people down a dead end road. (Never mind the fact that without a traditional computer, you wouldn't have any sort of applications for your stupid tablets and phones, but hey, this what the industry keeps saying).

I can't for the life of me understand why the money grabbing b@@@@@@s charge an extortionate entry fee to start with

It's only for developers, the auditorium must be rented, the people doing the exhibits must be paid and there's a lot of technical training and classrooms. It all costs money. Developers stand to make hundreds of thousands of dollars on their applications, $1599 is chump change. If you want cheap, go to Macworld. :)

----------

Maybe one of these 13-year-olds can fix the missing album artwork on iDevices bug since Apple's paid staff devs obviously can't

Maybe something else more important might be what the rest of us are looking for from the 13 year olds such as innovation of new products. Fixing album art is a waste of the student developers time.

----------

I fully understand its intended for devs and journalists, that doesn't mean they have to charge that much, by all means only allocate tickets to devs, just on a first come first served, pretty much as it is now without the extortionate charge

I don't think any of the developers are complaining. You're the only one. When people stand to make a lot of money developing THEE app they aren't sweating the entrance fee. You're looking at this from a bystander standpoint and not a business one.

Great idea. I hope they also do something special for them and facilitate access to some interesting people at Apple.

Anything that nurtures and inspires the youth gets a big thumbs up from me.

twenty-something & younger guys are imaginative, Apple knows that I'm guessing.

Children are our future and STEM is big right now. I just wish that they would have made it more girl encouraging by doing it as 100 for boys and 100 for girls. Given the very male executive roster of the company it would be a huge PR plus for them to do something like this.

----------

It sold out in 2 hours last year which means they don't have enough space for all the developers who want to come.

And if it were free there would be a ton of Yahoos like you and me wandering in from off the street which would keep even MORE developers out. It's clearly a smart idea to prevent that.

And press sneaking folks in to get information to leak out. At least the developers doing it off the betas had to give up a little something

I don't know why people keep bashing Tim. But once and for all Apple is a better company today. The charity, free WWDC ticket for student, apology to China and all social responsibilities in the name of Apple that would've never happened if Steve was still alive and in command.

All you ever got from Steve for free was a frickin iPhone case, and some people still love him?

Declining price of AAPL and iPhone/iPad sales are simply people getting bored of Apple product, regardless if it's Tim or Steve, it will still happen. No great, important product comes between original iPod and iPhone, that was 6 frickin years interval and nobody complains? But now? Come on, be fair.

Tim is the right guy at the wrong time. Still, I respect him for what he is, much more than Steve.

I just wish they had put some girls in the picture. It appears to be all male, and I am saying this as a guy.

I'm inclined to write Mr Cook and object to that female free photo. Remind him that despite the fact that Apple can't seem to find any females for their higher level positions they do exist and not just as partners for their husbands.

im taking a java class next year so hopefully they have it again

Hi everyone

I am applying for the scholarship. I was just wondering if anyone knows if you are allowed to have someone accompany you.

This is one of the more honest photos out there. The ratio of men to women as programmers is about 10 to 1.

You'd rather live in a fantasy land where things are they way you WANT them to be, and wish that Mr. Cook did too? And why are you ranting about 'higher level positions' when none is shown in the photo? It seems like your agenda clouds your mind and blocks your thinking.

Hi guys, I've got a q? re the terms. to quote:

By submitting your app to Apple as part of this WWDC 2013 Student Scholarship program, you grant Apple the right to use and review your app in connection with your scholarship application. If you provide feedback to Apple about Apple’s products or services or other product ideas as part of your Student Scholarship application, you agree that such information will be non-confidential and that Apple will be free to use it on an unrestricted basis.

Does this mean that unlike normal app submissions Apple owns and can use anything in your submission for their own without recompense to you. My concern is that my son has an idea for an internet service that he could integrate into a possibly unsuccessful submission app but obviously would be somewhat peeved if Apple then ran with their version of the service.
I hope that makes some sense.
Thanks

Perhaps so, but it would not hurt Apple to be more encouraging to girls by showing girls and boys programming. It could only help Apple, and it is my opinion that female programmers would open up some avenues for different programs/apps for a wider group of people.

You'd rather live in a fantasy land where things are they way you WANT them to be...?

I am not the one to whom you directed the question, but yes, I would rather live in a fantasy world where things are the way I want them to be. And I'd wager that you would rather live in a fantasy land where things are they way you want them to be, too.

You give them the right to load and test the app.

IF you submit anything about one of their apps, say a comment like 'I think Pages for iOS should . . . ' then you are giving up all claims to that idea.

It seems like your agenda clouds your mind and blocks your thinking.

And it seems a bit like you're a guy who is scared a girl might be able to do your job better than you

I'm not sure that the girl statement follows, could you please explain what you mean or at least outline the logic that led to that remark. Unless of course you are suggesting that Apple is staffed entirely by girls, in which case, of course I'm frightened that they could do a better job of implimenting the ideas of a thirteen year old boy than he, just ask Bill Gate's who knocked up a better OS.

Anyway to your other points. I agree that the feedback part in the terms is fairly unambiguous in it's meaning but the 'other product ideas' is a little sketchy.

OOOOPs, I think you may have intended that 'girl' comment for bbeagle, my bad. If not, well, grrrr...

Have you ever been or planned a large conference before? For a well run one of this size, the costs are enormous, from cost of facilities, training, documentation, logistics, planning to name a few--all that costs money.

These prices seem about right... American Physical Society conferences come in at around $600 for registration alone, which relatively speaking is cheap, but that's before you consider hotel and air travel fees. All considered, it comes in at ~$2000.
