Away from you
Because climate ends at the border...

Appearently climate isn't a big deal anymore when trying to lure customers. And guess what? Airpods are worse for the climate than normal headphones due their batteries.

If you read a little, you'll see that the customers have to purchase the Airpods and then they are reimbursed after the fact. This is a bit different than just carpet-bombing the entire globe with corded earbuds and USB chargers in the box with the phone.

So Apple is getting rid of old product in the third world by offering a freebie of old Air Pods... everybody wins...?
AirPods are AirPods. Apple isn’t even including free EarPods anymore. I’d gladly take some free sealed AirPods when buying a new iPhone if Apple were to offer them.

It's amazing to me anyone buys the Apple "green" and "climate" narratives.

Folks - they do **everything** to make an extra nickel now.
The narratives are all smoke and mirrors.

Want do something really green?
Design iPhones that are repairable and perhaps even with upgradeable modules.

Let's be real .... a massive percentage of people only want better cameras and the rest of the iPhone has been way more than good enough (great in fact) for years now.

The iPhones are expensive in India due to high taxes.
Price of iPhone 11 + Airpods ($750 approx) in the US is comparable or probably even cheaper than buying just the iPhone 11 in India ($750-800) give or take a few bucks.

They just pushing iPhone market share in India more, nothing more.

Previously India have no Apple Store, and buying iPhone must be not practical since import fees are decide the final price, which too expensive for majority users.

Android makers like Xiaomi and mid end devices are favorable there, not surprising if Apple pushed it with AirPods freebies.

True and I bet Apple could excel at modular sustainable design. They'd be trail blazers if they put their minds to it

Climate ends at the solar panel roof. Everything else below that is money.

But Apple was never big on anything modular. Since Steve Jobs, Apple prefers everything to be all in one, thus the iMac, laptops, everything soldered in.

Repairable is good, but modules would be a really bad idea imo. Modules sounds good on paper, until you realize the added bulk due to the attachment mechanism, the need to keep the same module cutout between generations, and issues with durability with detachable mechanical pieces. What if a new CPU needs a different socket or if the new camera got an extra lens? Modular concepts like Google Project ARA, LG G5, and Moto Z were all either pretty much DOA or never made it to release for these exact reasons. Besides, if upgradable laptops are any indication, non-techsavvy consumers would just get a new phone anyways even when component upgrades can be done to prolong the device lifespan.

Don’t get me wrong, Apple has been doing good work in recent years to make their energy sources and devices more environmentally-friendly.

That said, anyone who believes the marketing non-sense about removing chargers and headphones “for the environment” is a complete fool.

The EU was putting pressure on cell companies to stop providing those items.
And removing those items does a) help the environment and b) aid the bottom line. Kinda like reusing towels during a multi-day stay in a hotel. They do not have to be mutually exclusive.

well, but removing corded chargers and then advertising inductive charging that wastes way more energy...
