I sell mine every year on craigslist for the cost (with tax) I need to cover the new iteration of the iPhone. I get brand new hardware for free. I don't understand why everyone doesn't do this, although I'm sure they have a good reason. It does work well for me, however.

Just sold my iPhone 4 to eBay so I'm all covered for a new White 4S (And a new case)! =)

I love how AT&T lets me upgrade every year at the discounted 2 Year price, Does anyone know what the cause of this might be? Albeit, I have 2 lines and the bill is over $100 every month. But do you guys think it's just to keep me as a customer?

Either way I'm not complaining! :D

Price of your plan, length of time you've had the contract and other factors determine how often you can upgrade.

10% off your next iPod just for living in a country that actually has an apple shop? Yet again New Zealand gets screwed by being too small a population to support a store.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A334)

Never heard of them. Does this mazuma mobile place except US-based iPhones? I cant see why they'd pay double what US-based places pay. Seems scammy, but a quick google search hasn't turned up anything.

they are legit, they advertise on TV as well.

I want to sell my iphone but i do not have a backup and wondering will it be sell out's like last year or not sold in the carrier stores like last year

Considering I sold mine for over $400, definitely not worth it.

There are plenty of US-based sites like that, Gazelle is one of them.

The problem with those sites, from what I have read in user reviews and other articles, is that when you send them your phone, they will offer you a lesser amount than what was originally quoted on the website. And there is a short time-frame in getting your phone back, so they essentially hold your device hostage so you accept the lesser amount.

Not necessarily, I rejected their counter-offer and asked to have my phone sent back to me. They then came back with an offer which was 95% of what they originally offered. I rejected that and they paid up! Granted it took a few days and I was using an old phone in the meantime but cash4phones.co.uk paid me £315 a few weeks ago

Trading in Blackberry

I'd love to trade in my Blackberry Storm 2 which is turning into a piece of crap as it clearly was never designed to handle 5 email accounts and regular WiFi streaming of video and web data

Apple is offering up to $200 (for a 32GB iPhone 4) for used iPhones, depending on condition, via its recycling and trade-in program. The company also takes in iPads, old Mac and PC notebook and desktop machines for recycling.

Apple has partnered with California-based PowerON for its recently-expanded recycling service, calling the company "an industry leader in the responsible reuse and recycling of used IT assets."

To return an iPhone, users must first choose which model they have and then answer a few simple questions about the state of the device, including whether it is severely scratched, water damaged, and if it works properly. PowerON provides free shipping materials and, upon receipt and verification of the device, mails out an Apple Gift Card for the fair market value of the product -- or approximately what it would be worth selling it privately.

Apple/PowerOn isn't the only way to dispose of old electronics, of course. Online trade-in services like Gazelle, selling devices on eBay or Craigslist, or trading in iOS devices at GameStop are all viable alternatives.

Understandably, some may prefer the official Apple path versus the hassle or risk of selling their devices to third-parties.

The trade-in service isn't the only useful recycling program that Apple offers. It also gives a 10% discount on a new iPod to customers who bring in an old iPod -- working or not -- to an Apple Retail Store for recycling. Retail Stores will also take in dead batteries and any cell phone for free recycling as well.

In recent years, Apple has worked to aggressively improve its environmental image.

eBay is paying more... LOL

Minus the 9% commission fee that eBay charges, and then the 4% commission that PayPal charges. With the Apple option, the shipping is free and you know you're selling to a reputable company. Right now, eBay is paying about $300 for a 16GB iPhone4. Subtract the fees and you get about $250. Apple is offering about $200. Some people don't want to deal with setting up an eBay and PayPal account. Different methods for different people.

If you list your own auction, you can get about $400, but then you take the risk of a less reputable buyer.

What did a huge internet auction business want with your second hand phone?

When people are locked into a contract and not yet eligible for a subsidized replacement and they accidentally break their iPhone, then they need to buy a new one. The new price from Apple is about $700. The eBay reseller buys it from you for $300 then sells it on eBay to someone else for $400. (example)

Also, since T-Mobile doesn't sell the iPhone, a lot of people go on eBay and buy an iPhone with no contract then use it on T-Mobile. In the rest of the world, there are many countries that don't have "contracts" but rather people just pay full price for their phones. If the new phone is $700 and they can get one for less than that, they will buy the one that costs less.

they are legit, they advertise on TV as well.

Just got back from London, and so does "quickquid.com", with their 1736% interest rate (decimal not missing) for their instant loans. :) Legit and fair are not the same!

New member and first post. I have tried to go to the Apple recycle website since yesterday, and I see the 4 pulldowns for Category, Manufacturer, Series, and Model, but I can never pull down anything?!?!? My URL is store.apple.com/us/browse/reuse_and_recycle. Is this the right place to be, and if so, why can I not use any of the pulldowns? Thanks!

If we upgrade to iPhone 4S via AT&T don't they require you to turn in your old iPhone?

Their eligibility page says I can upgrade to 4S now for the regular $199. Does that mean I can keep my old iPhone and sell it or give it to a friend?

thanks.

This seems like more of a "Give us your old stuff, and we'll give you a gift card so you can buy our new stuff." I will sell my 32GB iPhone 4 for $400 and buy an unlocked 4S, not a bad trade off I suppose.

You own the phone, and get to keep it.
