So obviously they didn't really sell out. Still, I'm happy for the developers and happy as a consumer that developers are being given some love.

How could we ever know if Apple "sold out" when we don't know how many were available for sale and we don't know how many actually sold?

I have one on order in the first batch, but it still says processing, so I'm wondering if I should pull the trigger on one of these too, or hope the one I have on order actually arrives on the 24th.

Amazing how bad this roll out process has been. Starting pre-orders before the try-ons so couldn't see what they liked before they had to order. Sending people home to order online, instead of taking their order in the store while they are right there with the watch in front of the watch and have an Apple employee there to assist. Offering developers the option to order a watch for "expedited" delivery a week after per-orders were taken, which doesn't even ship until 4 days after the original release date. Giving a ship date range instead of an actual delivery date. Not having enough inventory to satisfy more than a couple minutes of pre-orders. Now randomly people are getting emails that their watches are preparing for shipment, while others are still processing who ordered the same model at the same time.

Does Apple send these opportunities to developers whose Apple ID is registered in one of 9 countries, where Apple Watch currently ships or around the world?

I'm a registered iOS and OS X Developer, still valid. This is what I get when I login (wtf?!):

You need to be "randomly selected" first.

Probably for the best, don't need one aside from development.

Could be talking rubbish, but it looks like it's being sent to developers who have released apps in the App Store, or a least are active developers (e.g creating certificates etc), this is just from the pattern I am seeing.

I'm a registered active developer with apps on the App Store. My latest updates just went out 2 weeks ago. Been on the store for years (registered under my personal name, not company). I make over $100k/year on my apps, and I never got this offer....

The 42mm Sport with blue band still shows "June" in the store. Doubt there is "ample supply". They built so much ambiguity into the ship estimates, that letting a few hundred, or even a few thousand developers cut in line will probably have zero impact of the month-long "June" window.

I think out of the people that sign up they are randomly selecting who wins but the sign up likely only went out to targeted DEVs. I didn't get one but I have barely submitted any apps so I am not surprised.

Same here. I'm wondering if the email went to devs that didn't order one.

I ordered 2 and still got the email. I did already submit and get my Apple Watch app approved though, maybe that has something to do with it? Do others who got the email have Apple Watch apps approved or in review?

They should sell it to Devs at a deep discount. If they can give away $10,000.00+ watches to rich people, it's the least they can do. Devs are the ones that are going to make the Apple Watch exciting to own/use.

Agreed, they should...although if they did - there'd be alot of eBay flips in the cards.

But lets not demean those super rich/powerful people who are getting those Edition handouts (just cause) with the "not for the minions" Gold Link band - its probably a $20k - $25k watch because of that band.

It seems MacRumours cannot read!

You won't get the Watch by the 28th, it's guaranteed to be shipped by the 28th.

Who got theirs for free?

Well that blows my theory but yours sounds logical.

Apples arrogance and intrinsic need to continually treat those outside of their secret circle with careless disregard is blatantly obvious with this news.

Name ONE company that doesn't give merchandise or discounts to certain people, not others. I'm waiting.

WOW you get a chance to BUY a predetermined size and color apple watch, :apple: you're too kind

So Apple can sell additional watches and deliver them prior to mine, however, they can't get someone who has already paid their watch before 5/13-5/27? Wtf Apple?

Minor Correction/Clarification

Not to take anything away from your relatively mild rant, but the "sending people home to order online" was not what I experienced at the Austin Domain Apple Store on Thursday, April 16. After my try-on session, the guy (whose name was Austin, but that's not relevant to this story) offered to send me to some other guy over at another table to put in an online order.
