There is a FREE books section on Apple Books already (in the UK).
Many of the classics are there.

You don't need the notification, just go on the app unless you are in a country that is not offered yet.

Nothing to redeem. Open the Books app. Go to the Book Store tab. Scroll through the row of choices at the top, to "Featured Collection / Free books for everyone, from kids to adults". There'll you'll find a whole bunch of free books (including about 100 Sesame Street titles).
