I do but podcasts get sync'd via iTunes and since I still have the Apple podcasts app they appear there.

You can delete 'podcasts' (the program) and it'll go back to working right under the normal music player. For some reason I had to reboot my iPod and my iPad more than once to get it to work, after deleting 'podcasts', but thankfully it's back to working again. 'music' was even upgraded, has some nice interface tweaks!

(So far, other than this horrible podcasts program, iOS 6 actually seems really nice.)

Thanks to those who noted that podcasts come back under "Music" after deleting Podcasts.app. After upgrading to iOS6, Podcasts.app chewed through 400MB of cellular data in ONE DAY (200Mb plan, no less), and managing to out-pace the automatic notifications from AT&T I knew something was up! "Use Cellular Data" was, indeed, set to "off" in settings, but that didn't seem to matter. I called AT&T about it, and they are investigating. I also reported to Apple. There is something VERY VERY buggy here. (An option to disable streaming would also be useful).

Even though I deleted the Podcast app, I didn't see the option come back under Music until I force-quit and relaunched "Music" and it came back.

That said, I think I will be trying out downcast for a while and see how that works for me.

To be clear, it turns out you do *NOT* need this program to do podcasts. iOS 6 on both my iPad 2 and iPod touch 4 handle podcasts the old, vastly superior way just fine. For some reason I had to reboot both several times after removing "podcasts" but now they're back to normal.

You'll want iOS 6 anyway just for the security updates, if you browse the web with it or anything, and it does have some nice tweaks all over the place, and doesn't seem slower than 5 did (unlike 5 which seemed slower on both than 4).

"Podcasts" is just a New Coke disaster, but thankfully they're not forcing it on us...I *hope* they never do, because as soon as they do, I'm leaving.

Thanks - I had eventually figured that out, and am happily (ish) running iOS 6 now. I don't hate maps as much as most people, but it did lose the paths/bike routes through parks that Google had.

I suppose I can give up hope that the smart playlist ordering bug will ever be fixed on iOS, though.
