I had skipped this one in favor of keeping my iPhone 4. I wish I had skipped the 5s, too—it was a good phone but I think I could have enjoyed my 4 another year, easily.

My husband had the black iPhone 5. It was flaky, literally and figuratively.

It isn’t long since I upgraded from a 5 to an SE, a continuation of my favourite iPhone form factor. I don’t see anything I want to upgrade to, so I hope it is a long time before the SE is classified as obsolete.

Yes, agreed. The 5 i got had a battery issue about a year into ownership. It was really bad, had to charge it almost continuously. I dumped it one week before Apple announced the free battery replacement program :(

But i bought a iPhone 6, and kept dropping it...too big for one handed operation. When the SE came out, I’ll bet I was about the first person to order it. Have loved it since, best iPhone to date.

I don’t expect Apple to continue to replace the SE, but if they did, I would buy three of them! What I’m expecting, though, is an upgrade of the 7 to include most of the X features, in Spring 2019. A full screen 7 might be pretty sweet.

The 5's design still looks good today. It has really aged well.

So far IMHO the 3G/S, 6/S, 7/S, and 8 designs won't age well. The original, 4/S 5/S/SE, and X/S designs so far will be the classic designs that define what an iPhone looks like.

The 4/4s is the best design in my view, and still hasn't been surpassed. That "ice cream sandwich" of glass and stainless steel is timeless. I even have my old one on my display shelf as I love it.

iPhone 5 running iOS 6 was and still is the smoothest exeprience ever and nothing has topped it since despite the more advanced chipsets and hardware today. It’s kind of sad actually how far iOS has fallen in terms of overall polish, fit and finish. I still have my slate black running 6.1.4 like in the pic above. I was just using it last night actually, still shocks me how much smoother and snappier it is compared to today’s latest and greatest, from the cleaner animations/transitions, to the attention to detail in the UI... damn shame that level of care is no more. After you’ve been accustomed to sloppy-ness (iOS 7-12) and go back to using it you realise how good we once had it, it’s just the features that have good now which is a given, but not many have an iOS 6 device especially on an iPhone 5 so they forget.

Still fiddling around with one of these. :(

I skipped the 5 but got the 5s and it was probably one of my favorite phones, it was such a nice size for me.

I use an iPhone5 as a controller for my Sonos audio. Does this move by Apple mean the iPhone5 will no longer receive iOS updates? If true, that means I will not be able to update the Sonos controller app, so the iPhone5 will be toast. I guess I can throw it in the drawer with my old iPhone4 and original iPhone, hoping that they will be collectors items someday (or good paperweights).

I know it sounds ridiculous, but I've been wanting to get an iPhone 5 with iOS 6 for the longest time. Where can I do that besides eBay?

iPhone 5 was my first smartphone; Perfect size, iOS6 to this date the smoothest experience I ever had on any device. Though later software updates made it choppier and slower, I was generally satisfied with it years after it's release and always look back fondly on this phone.

Although sad; I can't see anyone taking one of these to Apple for repair...
I took mine in 2 months ago after the battery started bulging.

The staff were amazed it had lasted so long.

They charged me £79 for a replacement iPhone 5 (it was the last one they had).

It looks practically brand new and works great.

I was hoping for an updated SE...

Agreed. The 4 era design is by far my favorite. I regret selling my 4 now. It's part of the reason why I jumped on getting the iPhone X last year because of the similar design philosophy even though with the X/S design, the back glass is integrated with the frame instead of it being a sandwich. I think I will be keeping my XS Max for the full duration of the iUP program so I can keep the XS Max because the X design is my second favorite to the 4.

I think the X/Xs might, but it depends a bit on how quickly notches disappear. There is a risk that the X/Xs ends up being regarded as that weird late 2010s transitional stage between bezels and full-screen - "what were we thinking?"

I had the 4 and my sister got the 5, and I remember how beautiful the deep blue metal looked when compared to the plain black of the iPhone 4.

I upgraded to my iPhone X from one of these on launch day last year. Let’s just say that it felt pretty amazing. And I plan on doing the same thing in another five years.
If the iPhone is even around in that time lol. The way apple is going I could see people not buying them later on down the road. They are good at being very limited at features and removing things like Touch ID and the headphone jack, and now charging ridiculous prices. Especially for the same phone such as the XS. I gave $1000 for my X last year, was mostly a mistake.

Apple have only recently dropped it so it will be supported for at least another two years.

The SE? Apple still sells the SE via authorized resellers as stated on Apple’s website. ATT still has them on their active product list. So, the SE is still being sold, and likely manufactured for worldwide sales. So the clock should not have started ticking on it yet, just because Apple doesn’t carry it in their stores.

I witnessed a coworker call AppleCare about an iPhone 5 battery replacement yesterday. It still runs great but battery life is only 4-5 hours. They were told to upgrade or seek third party options, which is what we’ve been telling him for months.

I’m not sure why the 5 would be so much different than the 5s in terms of seeking support. I just took my 5s in and received a brand new 5s as a replacement for a budding battery.

I doubt that will happen. If you put a 7 next to an X they are roughly the same size. The x is just thicker

Well I did say "At least another two years". ;)

I haven't seen anything about that on the UK site so perhaps it is country specific?

I loved my space gray iPhone 5. Back when space gray really was as dark as space. The 5s space gray was changed to almost silver.

Nostalgia filter is strong on this forum. I remember when they released it so many people here were complaining about the lightning port, the glass windows on the back and how "tall" the display was.

I still use my slate 5 on iOS 6 as my main phone everyday. Looks like nothing is ever going to beat that combo.

I never stopped loving that device, though the stretched display still bugs me.
