you can't compare the numbers from different sources. displaymate almost always gets higher numbers.

I understand but clearly Tomsguide was way way off saying 408.

Considering they're both Samsung made panels I would not be shocked if they were more similar than different.

I own both and they are both great. I don’t get the hate towards Samsung’s color reproduction. I like it but I also like the iPhone’s screen.

The lack of any critical thinking or analysis in these articles grinds my gears.

All manufacturers use diffeent modes and settings. Without aligning these modes, its all horse...
If i hear another tech blog saying samsung has over saturated displays my head is going to melt.

Samsung give you options. Out of the box its adoptive. You can use Srgb or adobe or whatever if you want. You just need to exersice your choice.

For brightness, samsung protect the screen from burn on by limiting its static brightness. (Good idea huh) but allows full display brigtness in auto mode so that its only on full when needed.

My s6 has nearly 800 nits in auto mode.

Oh and no burn in either.....

You win the Thread.

Samsung design and made vs. Apple designed and Samsung made
(only with Existing Samsung Manufacturing equipment so designed within Samsung’s limitations)

So still, Samsung wins then? It’s clearly the better pannel, writing on a X now and have a Note 8. Both good but Samsung is better.

The screen is fantastic, but the Note 8 is still the best screen. Any other claim is completely bias towards Apple

DisplayMate says the X has the best OLED screen on a device, ever.

That must be why you are asking people to trade your Note 8 for an iPhone X? Like anyone is honestly going to go for that.

Id say the x and the Note 8 is so close it doesn't really matter, its so close that other features are what you should use to determine which phone you are going to buy.

Apple I prefer real earth colors instead of cartoon colors

Saturated colors on Samsung displays looks awesome to most. I prefer the saturated colors. I had an LG G3 and the cool tone colors were awful. Nothing popped on that display. Colors look OK on the X, but overall I think the Note 8, etc. from Samsung have much better overall looking displays. To each their own.

In 2017, this is basically a pointless question. The LCD screens on the 8 and 8 Plus look great, the Samsung OLEDs look great, the iPhone X OLED looks great. They all look great.

I have an X and a Note 8. Both are equally good. Blacks are really deep and whites are really bright on both.

I checked out the 8 at Best Buy and side by side, the X display is nicer to me in brightness, clarity and color.

So much of “which OLED is better” boils down to settings and personal preferences.

For me, I own a Galaxy S8+, a Note 8 and an iPhone X. Don’t have my Note 8 with me today (it’s so big I find myself not carrying it as much) but I do think it’s got a terrific screen for most tasks.

But I do find my iPhone X to be the brightest. Here’s a side by side of the S8+ and the iPhone X, both max brightness. I find the text to be sharper on the S8+ overall, but the brightness of the X seems to make things pop better.

TrueTone is off on the X by the way. So is Bluelight on the S8+. Taken on my desktop with ordinary office fluorescent lighting above. Taken with an iPad Pro (2017).

S8 screen is super-crisp (and not at all over-saturated as previous samsungs) but I notice issues with auto-brightness from time to time.
For me, the X screen is such a relief after the same 326 ppi iphone screens for the last 7 years! Purely on this basis, X looks better to me 🙂

The iPhone X does have a brighter overall screen than the Note 8. Again confirmed by displamate. The Note 8 can reach a very night value but only for a small area of the screen.
