No no

My phone factory unlocked, Turkey block any IMEI not bought from Turkey Market.

If you get your phone in Küzey Kıbrıs and and a Turkcell sim card you then don't have to worry about being blocked in Turkey.

Oh, here we go! :)

Pretty much every single city in the world had different names in different times which is only natural. I think we should rather celebrate the cultural richness and the great history those times resulted in, rather than having such a pointless argument :)

Greetings from Ankara/Ancyra/Angora :)

The argument is not pointless, rather it very much has the point to show 1 set of people stealing another set of people's lands. "Celebrating the cultural richness" is easy said coming from those who take your land. That city was founded by the Greek/eastern roman emperor Constantine over 1000 years before the Turks stepped foot in those lands.....so sure, easy to say "celebrate cultural richness"

Get your facts straight. Istanbul has been a city for 1000 years before it was called Constantinopole. It was founded around 700 BC and was called Byzantium, and after 1000 years was re established as Constantinopole. And this is the known history. I'm pretty sure that people have lived in this area for 15000 years even before that including Turkish people. So no, it wasn't before Turks stepped foot in those lands. They have always been there.

Not to mention, only a bunch of Turkish people would argue over something like this in a technology forum. Have you ever seen in any forum that after someone mentioned the name of New York City, a Dutch guy coming up and calling "Don't you mean New Amsterdam?"

Being ******** over stuff that happened centuries ago... how typical of Greek people.

Also there's no problem bringing a phone to Turkey and using it there in roaming. Whoever says otherwise is definitely wrong. I am not Turkish but I travel to Turkey often and I've never had problems using my phones there.

how fortunate are these countries, and i am sitting here buying from 3rd party.
Anyway i am happy for my Turkish friends, atleast now i can buy though them (i have many friends in Turkey) rather than finding a 3rd party store here.

ummm, I think its a pretty established fact that turks originated from mongolian and central asian steppes……they have NOT always been in Greek areas.

Not at all. The genetics research shows that the people who currently reside in Turkey share most of their genetic code with the people living in the Balkans right now. Not central Asia. Armenians Turks and Kurds share a lot of their genetic code and it's now believed that the Turkish people of today are mostly the descendants of indigenous Anatolian people, people who lived thousands of years ago in Anatolia. (Pre Islamic Era).

You can read further in wikipedia or if you want more info on that just look at all the journals on genetic research.

Yay! My mom's brother-in-law is Turkish and lives somewhat near Istanbul.

I went there once way back in 1994. Beautiful city. Definitely recommend going to the Great Bazaar, the Blue Mosque & the Hagia Sophia (sorry if I spelled it wrong!).

Can somebody tell me what that white object is in the original post? At the risk of sounding like a Philistine, when I first saw it I thought there was some sort of new Viewmaster app for iOS.

It's an Apple themed saucerful for the traditional Turkish tea glass.

It looks like a Turkish tea set saucer design with iPhones, iPads, and headphones, instead of traditional design elements. I guess Apple is trying to associate its superb customer service with famous Turkish hospitality. If you go to a shop in Grand Bazaar, they bring you some tea before you even start looking at the carpets. It's also the same with most non-touristy stores. I'm not sure how it will work for a hi-tech giant like Apple though.

I am just disappointed by the prices. 916.25 US Dollars for a 16gb 5c? This is a joke...

Starting price in US: $550 excluding Sales Tax

Add:

Value Added Tax + Special Consumption Tax + Customs Duty

You'll see that Apple actually makes less profit for every product sold in Turkey. And keep in mind that all products come with 2-year standard warranty which is extra in US.

If you still want to blame someone, that should be the fckin Turkish government.

I am quite aware of the horrendous taxation you don't have to remind me. I still have the right to be disappointed.

Everyone here must know this info:

Turkey is very stupid country . Every person when enter Turkey border must leave his mobile because it is locked from operator !!!!

You must pay thousands Dollars to get registered IMEI !!! (New Phone).

WTF, where do you get your information? Total BS & Crap! You use your mobile phone as you do it at home. The roaming usage fee is determined by the roaming agreement between your local provider and the company you get the service while you are in Turkey. The major operators are Turkcell, Vodafone and Avea.

If you wish to use a local Turkish SIM Card and if you have an unlocked phone, you must register your phone for a long term or permanent use in Turkey, which cost 120 TL which is about $60 that registers the IMEI number of your phone for permanent use in Turkey.

The Turkish Telecom blocks the IMEI of a foreign phone if used in Turkey for more than 2 weeks with a Turkish SIM card. So, let's get this straight:

1) If you use your home card (ATT, T-Mobile, Vodafone etc form your own country) while you are in Turkey, you can use it for as long as you want it, and pay the roaming charges.

2) If you want to put a Turkish SIM card in your unlocked phone while you are in Turkey to avoid roaming charges, and you use it for more than 2 weeks, the Turkish Telecom will block your IMEi and prevent it to use it with a Turkish SIM card, unless you pay the $60 fee and register your IMEI for permanent use in Turkey. Long term users MUST do that if they want to use their phone with a Turkish SIM card. This involves registering your IMEI to your passport number and you are limited to do this for one phone for every 2 years.

3) Even if the IMEI is blocked after 2 weeks using a Turkish SIM card, you can still put your original (ATT, T-Mobile whatever card) back into your phone and be able to use your phone with no restrictions and pay the roaming chargers as usual.

Get your facts straight dork!
