Apple today announced (via ifoAppleStore) that its new Princes Street retail store in Edinburgh, Scotland will open next Saturday, October 18. The date was revealed this morning on the multi-colored banner that has been surrounding the location since July. Apple spent over a year constructing the store, which was followed by nine months of delays as it attempted to finalize its design.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, the building containing the retail space was built in 1769 as the Crown Hotel. Throughout the past 40 years, the location has been occupied by a number of tenants including Woolworth's, Burger King, Waterstones, and Evans. The new store will also follow Apple's recent trend of constructing retail stores in historical buildings, most recently done with its MacArthur Chambers Store in Brisbane, Australia.

The Princes Street location will be Apple's 38th in the United Kingdom, and will join the company's Braehead and Buchanan Street stores in Glasgow. Like with other store openings, it is likely that Apple will give out free shirts to the first 1,000 customers to visit the new location.

    Hooray!

We've been watching this slowly evolve in Edinburgh for so long, it will be a relief to finally see it open for business!

I might go up there on Saturday morning..
    What time will it open?
Not sure I feel the need to queue early for a t-shirt though...

    EDIT - opens at 10am on Saturday 18th.. (http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/princesstreet/)

Always good to see more Apple Stores in the UK. I'm waiting for the new unannounced Birmingham New Street Station store. Probably opening September/October 2015 (John Lewis opens September - so I can't see Apple opening at the same time).

Perhaps this is what the iPad invites for next week meant by saying "It's been way too long" :)
Good to see a more local store finally opening though.

Glasgow has got two Apple stores. And a metric ton of other shops. And fantastic nightlife.

    Watch app icons

Is it me or is this the first store whose temporary facade refers to the new Apple Watch? It reminds me of their recent exhibition at Collette.

Yes, what I meant was I've been waiting about 5 years, and when it finally arrives, I've left for a city with two apple stores...

Wow, Apple stores mean a lot to you that you felt the need to move closer to one (or two)! That is true geek love right there! :apple:

How were MacRumors to know the original source? Gary doesn't seem to have cited you in his tweets.

Yeah I know. I should have tweeted them first rather than emailing - that way the retweet would help.

    Ho hum

Well thanks for noticing this morning and sending the photos to ifo as had MacRumors not picked up the story I'd probably be none the wiser right now about the opening. Been waiting for this store for a long time!

Bullring is too small, I can see that one closing if they open at the station.

I wish Manchester had one of these 'flagship' type old renovation stores, instead of the Arndale Centre :p
