The downside to this, I can easily see banks in the EU removing support for Apple Pay and if you wanna use tap to pay, you have to exclusively use their app.
Yeah but Apple could’ve implemented Apple Pay as a consumer feature that made it easy to iPhone owners to pay contactless anywhere - and not charged banks any processing fees.

And it was about getting those payment processing fees that Apple wanted - way more than providing a good consumer experience.

That can't be happening... Apple is entitled to get it's 30%. They should get 90%, if you ask me. They made the phone, didn't they?
And besides... I don't want to get malware. Which I certainly will. Instantly.
I wish they would just close up and limit the MAC to the app store. I think they deserve 30% (the very least) after each transaction on the MAC as well. I know Craig said MAC people can handle it and iPhone people are mouthbreathing idiots, but stilll...
It's their device, not mine.
Hi Tim, we all know that this account is you.

So multiple providers will likely withdraw from Apple Pay for reasons that benefit them directly, like reduced fees (none of which will be passed on to you) and more data collection.

You can map one of these providers to your side-button for quick access, but for all others, you now have to dig in to their respective app each time you want to tap-to-pay.

So before this change, you had everything in one place with Apple Pay. After this change, you will have access to a single provider/card via the side-button, with access to most other cards now buried in the app.

How exactly does this benefit the iPhone user again?
Well said. If this happens I’ll just get rid of all my other cards and stick with the Apple card

All this so people can eff around with cloning Amiibos lol

Just get an Android on the side ya’ll, they’re cheap as heck

Barclays did with Android users, but couldn’t with Apple users.
Barclays works just fine with Google Pay. No need to use their banking app for contactless payments.Just FUD

Nobody wants different apps for different functions. The appeal of Apple Wallet is having everything in one place. It’s so damn inconvenient to open that app to tap. It’s counter intuitive. I would straight up switch off that bank if they did that to me.
What's stopping Apple from adding an API to allow banks to add their own non-Apple Pay payment methods to the Wallet app?

Because I imagine it's just the fact that Apple Pay payment methods get Apple a cut of all transactions, meaning they don't want anything non-Apple Pay there.

So now there's a chance of using mass transit cards with NFC.
I'm still using my Android on my backpack pocket when i use metro and bus in my city.
Not sure if it's only a technical requirement, but with Android we can use NFC easily to log our trip throughout the month and the billing process is only done after the end of the month with the lowest tariff eligible.

Maybe it’ll finally push Apple towards bringing Apple Card to continental Europe. I’d be happy to get it, alas it’s not available over here.
It would indeed be ironic if the majority decided that Apple Card was the most convenient solution, leaving their other cards (and dedicated apps) unused.

Hopefully this means we can use the phone as our transport card in Paris. It's been available on Android for years!

You missed the past tense - Barclays in the *past* didn't allow Android users to use the Google Wallet and those customers had to use the Barclays app if they wanted to use their phone for contactless, whereas at the same time they did allow Apple customers to use Apple Wallet as they had no choice.

Luckily I don’t live in the EU so I don’t have to deal with that crap. But if it came to the US and I was forced to use my bank app for tap to pay rather than just clicking a button for Apple Pay, I would either switch banks or go back to physical cards.
If you don't live in the EU, then why comment?

People here already use their bank's app, Apple wallet is the third party system. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm pretty sure many people here would rather choose to use their own bank app then to set up a payment system through a third party.

Exactly. But somehow one type of exclusivity is better than others.

For example, no complaints at all about the exclusivity and locked down behaviors of PSN, Nintendo eShop, XBox store, etc nor their 30%+ commissions 🤷‍♂️
