No bank forces you to use their tap to pay solution.
Barclays did with Android users, but couldn’t with Apple users.

Yeah but Apple could’ve implemented Apple Pay as a consumer feature that made it easy to iPhone owners to pay contactless anywhere - and not charged banks any processing fees. The downside to this, I can easily see banks in the EU removing support for Apple Pay and if you wanna use tap to pay, you have to exclusively use their app.
Hi Tim, we all know that this account is you. That can't be happening... Apple is entitled to get it's 30%. They should get 90%, if you ask me. They made the phone, didn't they?
And besides... I don't want to get malware. Which I certainly will. Instantly.
I wish they would just close up and limit the MAC to the app store. I think they deserve 30% (the very least) after each transaction on the MAC as well. I know Craig said MAC people can handle it and iPhone people are mouthbreathing idiots, but stilll...
It's their device, not mine.
Well said. If this happens I’ll just get rid of all my other cards and stick with the Apple cardSo multiple providers will likely withdraw from Apple Pay for reasons that benefit them directly, like reduced fees (none of which will be passed on to you) and more data collection.
You can map one of these providers to your side-button for quick access, but for all others, you now have to dig in to their respective app each time you want to tap-to-pay.
So before this change, you had everything in one place with Apple Pay. After this change, you will have access to a single provider/card via the side-button, with access to most other cards now buried in the app.
How exactly does this benefit the iPhone user again?
Barclays works just fine with Google Pay. No need to use their banking app for contactless payments.Just FUDBarclays did with Android users, but couldn’t with Apple users.
What's stopping Apple from adding an API to allow banks to add their own non-Apple Pay payment methods to the Wallet app?Nobody wants different apps for different functions. The appeal of Apple Wallet is having everything in one place. It’s so damn inconvenient to open that app to tap. It’s counter intuitive. I would straight up switch off that bank if they did that to me.
It would indeed be ironic if the majority decided that Apple Card was the most convenient solution, leaving their other cards (and dedicated apps) unused.Maybe it’ll finally push Apple towards bringing Apple Card to continental Europe. I’d be happy to get it, alas it’s not available over here.

If you don't live in the EU, then why comment?Luckily I don’t live in the EU so I don’t have to deal with that crap. But if it came to the US and I was forced to use my bank app for tap to pay rather than just clicking a button for Apple Pay, I would either switch banks or go back to physical cards.
Because I can?If you don't live in the EU, then why comment?
Then I think this means I can also comment and say that I think your comments are stupid. You're applying American thinking to a European situation, what you're saying is irrelevant and probably doesn't even apply to most EU-citizens.Because I can?

Exactly. But somehow one type of exclusivity is better than others. The downside to this, I can easily see banks in the EU removing support for Apple Pay and if you wanna use tap to pay, you have to exclusively use their app.
