Then stop with the hyperbole about the government doing nothing to enable the system that allows for functioning markets (like this one); because not only are you easily shown to be wrong, but you yourself just said that you haven't got enough to stand on to make a conclusion.
You find it hyperbole when I say the government of Zimbabwe had nothing to do with Apps? Sorry I stand by that claim. I really don't even understand what your argument with me is. All you do is gaslight and side skirt any of my questions. Perhaps you are a politician.

The country I live in also has free healthcare and free education but our sales tax rate is only 5%. At the end of the day, the money has to come from somewhere. All I said is that, in my opinion a sales tax of 20%+ on goods is steep because the tax is also obtained by financially struggling people and children for something the government had no hand in. No different than charging for the air. Again, I have no problem with people disagreeing with my opinion but I don't understand why you insist that I must agree with you.

The Calibri font on the PDF Apple document the article links to is shocking. Calibri! Steve definitely wouldn’t have allowed that.

Absolutely nothing, except everything that makes it possible to live in a nice society instead of in a dirt hole constantly robbed and abused by gangs/tribes.

Have fun reading about Swedish taxes if you want to go off about taxes.
Somewhat ironic considering the gang warfare that is going on in Sweden (Look on Wikipedia for the number of bombings and explosions there).

VAT is getting out of control considering the total tax burden.

Note to American readers: sales tax is always shown on the store prices in Europe. It is also levied automatically on online purchases.

If anyone else is reading that I'll add a bit of context:

There are some serious problems related to gangs in certain areas, yes; but every damn time someone brings that up like that, especially online, their whole political agenda has a tendency to fall within what the average Swede would, if wanting to avoid the r-word, refer to as something in the neighbourhood of "alt-right".

To cut to the core of what I'm saying (and I'll leave it like that): I'm saying that it is straight up ignorant to think that something like an AppStore could be available without some form of government (in the widest sense of the word).

So saying that the government has nothing to do with apps is just wrong; because the government is what enables apps to be there for anyone to buy to begin with, for they enable what's needed to access them.

19% WOW! I don't want to hear a word form these countries about how the App Store charges 15% and 30% to their developers for creating an entire platform, developing api's, hosting, selling, supporting etc. When the government takes 20% (which is close to what Apple takes because they are also tacking 20% on Apples 30%) for doing absolutely nothing.
Much suck for you to live in a country where your government does absolutely nothing.

These governments figure by making it more expensive to buy online (adding taxes) its more competitive, so Online retailers are not drawing consumers away from retail outlets.
Actually the VAT applies to stationary sales as well. It's not just for online retailers.

Well my taxes don’t pay the government. They pay my schools, police stations, hospitals, firestations, trains, autobahns, universities so I am fine with that. Sure it could be less. But then some of that stuff would cost extra. It is what it is.
I for one cannot wait until they don’t pay the police stations. Shame we have no say which governmental entity gets my taxes. I’d give it all to the schools because science rules. This post is in good faith.

Zimbabwe used to have a functioning government. Now the UK keeps them down.

You are grasping at straws here but yet you like to use strong terms like "ignorant" when someone has a different view point. Again, get over yourself with the insults. It helps with having a grown up conversation.

Yes...Because you are able to have a home with the governing services required for a functioning society, it gives you the opportunity to sit in your living room and buy an app. So in the widest sense, you are correct. That is no different than saying that your water treatment plant provides you water so that you can live and therefore allows you to be able to buy an app. So they should get 20% too.

If you are telling me that its more specific than that, then sure I'm "ignorant". Please enlighten me on what these governments specifically do to "enable what's needed to access apps" and therefore justify a 20% cut. I can maybe see if those governments provide free internet, but I don't think they do.

At no point did I ever say there shouldn't be any sales tax. All I am saying is for me, 20% is a bit steep for something the government has no direct involvement in. I also always stated "but if the people of that country are okay with it, then that's great". Not sure what your beef is.
