Apple, your customers have been waiting for one year now for you to deliver and all you have shipped is crickets. If AirPower is cancelled then come out and say so, don't leave your customers waiting. iPhone X has come and gone and many of your customers haven't taken advantage of wireless charging because you haven't shipped the charger like you said you would. If it's cancelled then come out and point to a quality third party product that's compatible and won't catch fire. If it's not cancelled then give an update on the schedule. ANYTHING but silence, your customers deserve better.

If someone is still waiting around to try wireless charging after a year, with the plethora of cheap Qi chargers on the market....then that person has bigger issues than an Apple explanation can help with.

Apple with their new valuation and continued success doesn’t make moves if they don’t have to.

Honestly, with the amount of wireless chargers on the market that do the same thing for much, much less- I wouldn’t be surprised if they scrapped it all together.

Going by the rumors Gruber posted on DaringFireball recently I think it’s very likely we won’t see it anytime soon.

That combined with my love of the link bracelet means I’m not waiting any longer.

My cheap ass $15 amazon charging pad has been perfectly fine. I will find a nicer looking one (grovemade or elevation labs perhaps) and be just fine. My watch already has a nice stand and my AirPods can just plug in every few days. NBD.

I think their silence speaks volumes.

And unless you put down a deposit for one, they don’t owe anyone anything.

False, I am not going anywhere near wireless charging until an Apple or Apple-certified charger is launched, and I know many in the same boat. Just because you're willing to play fast-and-loose with your phone charger (and potentially your safety, charger failure modes aren't pretty) doesn't mean that anyone not willing to take the risk "has bigger issues". Your statement is not based in fact.

Honestly, this makes no sense since Apple has chosen to use a standard. So choosing any quality Qi charger from a reputable manufacturer isn’t playing “fast-and-loose” and there’s no risk to your safety.

Now, picking up one of the cheap no-name brands...sure, you’d have a point there. But it’s just dumb to refuse to use a standard Apple states to support on their own website just because you have some assumption that only Apple can make a safe Qi charger.

So what of the chargers apple even sells directly from their website? Heh

You won’t be receiving an explanation about the Airpower at all, that’s not how Apple operates. As matter of fact, now that they removed the Airpower from the website, it may no longer be in existence at all for their future.

If it's cancelled then come out and point to a quality third party product that's compatible and won't catch fire. .

Again, this is _not_ something Apple will do. If there’s a proprietary method that they were going to release with the Airpower, by them indicating a third-party product would only create controversy why they’re not releasing the Airpower for XYZ reasons. It would be diverting business elsewhere and to me, that looks bad.

There are apple certified wireless chargers sold in the Apple store... Just because they are not made by Apple does not mean they don't certify it... So if Apple nixes this thing and never releases one with their name brand on it then you'll never use wireless charging I guess. I have a mophie charger purchased from the Apple store and certified by Apple who worked in conjunction with Mophie on it. so your statement that I'm willing to play fast and loose with my phone charger is not based on fact.

See today's front page story on the issues with AirPower.

https://www.macrumors.com/2018/09/17/airpower-doomed-to-failure-engineering-issues/

Doesn't look like its coming anytime soon. As others have posted look at the chargers on Apple store if you want something endorsed by Apple. I've been using an Anker charger I bought on Amazon since release of the iPhone X with no issues. My battery is still at 99% of its original capacity after one year so I don't think the wireless charging had any ill effects on my phone. The Qi charging protocol used by Apple and is also used by most, if not all, of the industry so it's not like its Apple specific technology.

Lol there’s literally 3 on Apple’s website.

Unless you’re bojuee and only want an Apple branded one.

There are a ton of legit, quality Qi chargers out there. A TON! Why the heck would it have to be Apple made before u buy it? So when air power comes out for $250 ur gonna get into wireless charging? Haha. Well, you would be very foolish to pay that kind of money for a flat Qi charger that’s only advantage will be that u can lay ur phone or watch anywhere on the mat, and you only have one cord. Other then that it’s a complete waste of money, and severely late & outdated.

I've got a small Moshi flat charger for my Xs. Works well. I use the provided Apple Watch charger for my Apple 4th Gen.

So, the Apple version really needs to offer something more or at least come in at a decent price. I have no idea what that "more" would be. As others have pointed out 3rd party players have come up with some pretty nice combo chargers. I wish someone would come up with some all in one iPad, Apple Watch, iPhone wireless, BT headphone charger. Right now my dresser looks like a snake pit of cables.

Maybe I'll eat my words when the Apple mat hits?

Nice to see Apple coming through with the device! Can't wait for pre-orders, this is going to be a huge hit.

I must be really wild using a Samsung wireless charger lol
