ARG!!! I wish Apple/Jobs would get it through it's thick skulls that creating buzz by showing these things is a GOOD thing. They should stream it, if they had a smarts.

Maybe it'll be like the iTunes Music store which wasn't streamed but I found it on MSNBC's website being streamed in Windoze Media Player format only. Yep, I had to go to a MICROSUCK site and use a MICROSUCK streaming player to watch the Apple iTunes keynote announcement... I mean... WTF Apple?!!? Get a clue! You've got fans, broadcast these damn things, learn to market yourself a little better.

Grrrr!

Actually, it was streamed in QuickTime 6 on Apple.com the same day.

Does Steve speake fluent French? Maybe the whole thing will be 'en Francais' and most of us won't understand it anyway.
There again, perhaps Steve holding up a 15" PB with the letters G5 on the screen would require no translation.:D (Wishfull thinking obviously)

Pip pip.

Actually, it's over the Atlantic Ocean south of Africa - since synchronous satellites are equatorial.

It's roughly due south of Portugal and Ireland on the equator.

Just so everyone knows exactly where it is: (courtesy of J-Track 3D )

For the last two keynotes I think I was reading what someone in Britain was typing from his satelite feed. So all we have to do is to find a really nice Brit who is willing to help and type for us in the MR chat room.

Any Volunteers?

Apple only seems eager to broadcast "exciting" events. Maybe there isn't really anything earth shattering that will be revealed? My other guess is that they won't be able to broadcast it because Apple Records has found some other way to sue Apple computer involving broadcast media and satellites. They soon will make even just mentioning the word apple in the produce section illegal unless you plan to send the Beatles 2 dollars in the mail. Greed! All you need is love...apparently not :)

Just wondering...does microsoft broadcast like events for their company? I'm afraid to visit their website.

In other news Virgin Records has taken a suit out on everyone who is celibate.

Sorry for cross posting in a way.

bummer

What a crappy day for me to have surgery. Well, at least I can enjoy percoset-induced hallucinations of 15" PowerBook updates.

Why would Microsoft do a Live webstream of an insane monkey dance and a Janet Reno lookalike??

I'm expecting something exciting. I'll have my credit card ready.

There is an AU$300 rebate if you buy a laptop and ipod for education at the same time here in Australia.

The ipods have just been updated and lowered in price, there's a good chance of new laptops (powerbooks AND ibooks, I reckon!), all on education pricing plus $300 back! I'll never see a better opportunity to buy!

All the planets are coming into alignment bwahahaah!

what we really need

I wonder what kind of a connection they have running wirelessly in the keynote room. Perhaps some kind person with an iSight could point it at the front of the room and run a low quality stream from within (based, of course, on bandwidth constraints), or stream to a location from which it could be rebroadcast. Maybe even audio only would do the trick. Of course, they're probably running NAT on the network so it would be difficult to actually have clients connect to a stream on that network directly. It would pretty much have to be rebroadcast.

So, anyone going to be at the expo with an iSight or other camera who could open iChat AV and start a video chat with another volunteer who happens to have access to a big pipe and knowledge of streaming technologies? Then they could either stream the image from their screen or even aim a camera at the picture. I'm sure it would be appreciated.

Apple gives us iSight and iChat and Quicktime streaming server, why don't we use it to get our stream?

(yes, i know, it's far fetched)

reidab, I've got NAT on my network and I can at least broadcast audio on the internet, I don't have a camera so don't know about video. Of course it would depend on the software being used etc. So this is definitely possible (if they're offering wireless), but Apple may surprise us and provide a stream anyway.

PS. Welcome to the forums :)

Here is how you do it...

Ok, time to actually post! I got newbi-itus!

Anywho, here is how we could create our own webstream. Quite easy actually. Someone who has access to the satelitte feed would need an analog to dv converter so they can pump the signal into their mac. that mac would run quicktime broadcaster which would compress and send the stream to a machine running quicktime streaming server.

So in summary, we need someone with a decent mac, broadband internet and a analog - dv converter.

Person number two needs to have quicktime streaming server and one BOATLOAD of bandwidth to serve up to the community.

lets do it!!! show apple how to do it cause even at 3am EST i bet i will be up!

Last year's keynote was in English. Don't forget this is the one and only keynote for Europe, not only France. As more Europeans speak English more fluently than French, it is a good thing Steve keeps it English.
Mind you, the Expo is French, but that I find logical, because there are more European expos than this one. Keep it localized...

I almost fulfill person number 1, but my analog source is television, not satellite. Let alone the fact that I will be dreaming about the keynote in my sleep . :)

Yes, I will look forward to viewing Steve's Paris Keynote via Quicktime. Sounds like it should be available by the time I will be online!

If possible, MacRumors will try to provide live-coverage, and/or provide links to available info. Our IRC Channel is (and will be) also open for going live chat.

Just to clarify, the keynote time slot begins at 9 AM Paris time, which is 3 AM Eastern Daylight Time and 12 AM Pacific Daylight time.

Wow! I wish I was on the west coast, I'd still be up! Sadly I live on the east coast, hence, that's a bit past my bedtime!

Gosh, is this time stuff really that confusing? The keynote is actually at 1AM PDT or 4AM EDT. It's at 3AM EST. Right now most of the east cost is in daylight savings time, but not Indiana.

Satellite Feed Differs from Keynote Time

Remember everyone, the satellite feed starting time and the keynote starting time are probably different. As was mentioned earlier in this thread, there is likely 1 hour in the feed PRIOR TO the keynote starting. I think the keynote is at 4am East Coast and 1am West Coast although the satellite feed starts earlier.

You're confusing me now. When you say East Coast you mean EDT, right? I'm in EST right now. I think the post on the front page was intended to say EDT.

10AM Paris - 4AM N.Y.C. - 1AM L.A.

The Keynote is listed as 10AM in Paris Time . . .

Resulting in . . .

4AM in New York City

3AM in Chicago

2AM in Denver

1AM in Los Angeles

Everyone else should be able to extrapolate from these times (in the U.S. anyway)
