MacBidouille claims to have the satellite broadcast location for the Apple Expo keynote:

The keynote will be broadcasted on Tc2D from 0900 to 1230.
Orbital position : 8 degrees West
Reception frequency : 11564.7 MHz
Polarisation : vertical
Symbole rate : 6.1113 MS/s
FEC : 3/4

If possible, MacRumors will try to provide live-coverage, and/or provide links to available info. Our IRC Channel is (and will be) also open for going live chat.

sounds good

better find some card board, duct tape and aluminum foil.. so i can make a dish and strap it around my neck. i think that is the only way i will get that signal. or just a good tan..

A 3.5 hour keynote? Wow! Maybe they just reserved that much uplink and will use some of it for other stuff?

ARG!!! I wish Apple/Jobs would get it through it's thick skulls that creating buzz by showing these things is a GOOD thing. They should stream it, if they had a smarts.

Maybe it'll be like the iTunes Music store which wasn't streamed but I found it on MSNBC's website being streamed in Windoze Media Player format only. Yep, I had to go to a MICROSUCK site and use a MICROSUCK streaming player to watch the Apple iTunes keynote announcement... I mean... WTF Apple?!!? Get a clue! You've got fans, broadcast these damn things, learn to market yourself a little better.

Grrrr!

I'll still be sleeping, but I'll now alter my head position on my pillow and wrap my head in reynolds wrap. I'll wake up knowing all about the new offerings from Apple!!! :D

who the hell still has a C-Band dish. I think 99% of North America has converted to Directv/Dish Network/Express Vu

C-Band is decades old technology so you think Apple would at least broadcast the stream on one of the major satellite providers

Well, the satellite broadcast is really intended for news outlets, so they can pick it up and rebroadcast it to us.

satelite

because of the lack of cable providers most of europe (atleast germany) has older satelites. I mean everybody has a satelite. You can enter in all the frequency information and everything

European only satellite?

I did a quick search for TC2D satellite and it seems to be a european only satellite anyways. Does us here in North America no good.

Too bad I'm at college. I still have a C-Band dish at home. (Apple generally broadcasts both on C-band and Ku-band).

Oh, and that probably is a European satellite. It's definitely not any satellite I know of.

Forgive me if I am being too 'modern,' but how many people reallyuse the old satellite dishes anymore? With the advent of DirecTV and Dish Network, etc, why on earth would someone have a monsterous dish hogging their yard?

I'm just curious about this broadast strategy. Please stream it....I mean, Apple does want to include it's fans (and potential switchers) to experience the 'buzz' these things generate, right???

Instead we are forced to rely on "secret operatives" that are at the Keynote, who can hopefully send bits and pieces of what is going on, as we (those without these dishes) crash every mac rumor site out there.

Maybe I'm wrong?

The African Beam

That satellite is located roughly above Liberia/Cote d'Ivoire in Africa.

It might be possible to pick it up from the east coast of the US - assuming that your dish can swivel down to point at the horizon....

Keynote

I believe the keynote will be available via Quicktime from the Apple site on a delayed basis later in the day or at least by Wednesday. It was last year.

Yes, I would like to know what that is about.

I don't know about anyone else, but as for my family, we bought a C-band dish in the mid-90's, and later joined Dish Network. However, we still have the old dish. Right now it's reserved for Expo use :)

News organizations and the media also still use C-Band, which is why Apple broadcasts their keynotes on it.

I'm sure many of you remember WWDC, when a few sites listed every university with a C-Band dish that was going to show the WWDC keynote.

Uhh, the time . . .

At 3am EST, 2AM Central, 1AM Mountain, midnight Pacific (in the U.S. anyway)???

Probably Not.

Setting the record Straight...

Hello all,

Couple of things here...

1) The satellite feed is a Digital Ku-Band satellite feed. You'll need a Ku-Band Dish and need a Digital Ku-Band Reciever. The type News ENG guys run.

2) The satellite is somewhere over Europe. Tc2D is the name of the Satellite. Point the dish there if you have the right gear. As for the US, unless Apple puts it up on a North American Satellite, we're out of luck (Also the Apple Stores).

3) the 3.5 Hour Window is made up of parts. One hour is a test window. Usually Bars and Tone for an hour or so. Then a Half hour to an Hour of people milling about. Then a Hour Keynote where I hope hear the sweet, sweet words of a 15" powerbook being released. Then a half hour tape feed of Highlights for News, and Vendors at the end.

Good luck picking this one up. If so post what's happening and if I get to spend more money on Apple Computer.

Junk.

Actually, it's over the Atlantic Ocean south of Africa - since synchronous satellites are equatorial.

It's roughly due south of Portugal and Ireland on the equator.
