Do you think Apple is purposefully holding back critical security fixes?

Nope, but Apple often tries to bundle security fixes with other (sometimes planned) changes in iOS. I understand when feauture updates are not done yet, but why not patch the security issues in a dedicated iOS update? I would have understood holding back the update when they were expecting to ship 13.4.5 the week after this publication came out, but now it's three weeks and we have not seen 13.4.5 or a security patch for the known vulns.

In this case, the cause of the apparent "lag" in releasing 13.4.5 is not known. My guess if Apple released the security update separately from the feature release, they would draw criticism (as seen before) on the number of updates being released in a short period of time.

I have never understood this argument. Especially now that iOS can update automatically during sleep time there is 0 disturbance for the user. I want my software to progress and especially to fix security issues fast. Who cares about the number of releases?

Unfortunately some of the past discussions here on MR, reveal the some people gauge software quality by the number of releases. By that metric, Microsoft fails with Windows. I agree with you that Apple should release fixes, these fixes should go in "overnight" and people stop obsessing about the dividing the number of fixes in a period of time. Maybe Apple with ios 14 will start to make patching a bit better.

There may be more to this than you know and extended beta is warranted. Do you think Apple is purposefully holding back critical security fixes?

Was Microsoft holding back with this as well (just to show things can't be fixed on a dime)?

Can we leave off the “but he/she/it did it too!!” finger pointing?
It doesn’t add anything constructive.

The reason this example was shown, is to demonstrate, it's not only Apple that seemingly can't turn on a dime, or for other reasons not known, has decided to "not turn on a dime."

It's very easy to be critical first, without understanding. In the example posted, why didn't Microsoft just deploy an update overnight? Are they not capable? In my opinion, it's helpful to understand similarities in the software industry.

Personally I see Apple, Microsoft, Google, and others as separate ways of handling things.
I don't expect them all to be the same.

This though, has been a concern by Apple and could be due to complexity.
I've switched to the PB until ...

Be nice if they at least let us know something other than the usual crickets.
