There have been gyroscopic input devices around for ages. One brand that comes to mind is 'Gyration' ...I believe Logitech did/does make a gyroscopic/air mouse also. However, don't know where the patents lie.

Also, the Nintendo DSi has a front-facing camera, and is a handheld (gaming) device. It actually has a camera in both directions. Seems like a simple enough patent there are probably others already out there, if not similar (or who filed first?).
