Its only the Pro Max version where you’ll be able to tilt it (2 degrees).

And if you need the height adjustment you should go for the Ultra Pro Max.

Small detail: once you mount the displays on this it will lock to it forever so if one display die you either just have a fancy blackboard or must replace the whole thing.

The single costs what? Imagine the cost of a dual one.

Random thought: Does Gibraltar make screen stands? They could have a side product for people that want the ultimate in solid multi-screen mounts. I've seen some really amazing setups for concert kits. All rock solid...

I’m struggling to see what technology here is patentable.

What matters is if the board sees it as patent worthy. So many patents are turned down after being issued, and yet some dubious patents last for decades. Hmm...

In the end it's about insuring future profitability, right?

EDIT: They use a long threaded rod and a 'shuttle' mechanism to adjust the distance between screens. Seems innovative to me. Don't think it'll be supremely stable, but who knows. I smell huge list price.

I'd rather they spent their time actually making a new monitor and not one thats using a panel dating back to 2012, all be it with backlight improvements.

Apple seems to have a problem at making monitor mounts that don't suck in some way or another (I'm looking at you non-rotatable studio mount). Just slap a vesa mount on it and let 3rd parties figure that one out.

now that everyone posted their childish 'price' comments can we discuss something else? Maybe?
Hardly childish when they're charging more for a flawed stand than the exact same monitor panel cost in total when sold by them just a few years prior.

I personally think that this solution gives you more space undearneath the screen that might be useful for other stuff.
Its good that companies try to research these things as usually you get some innovation later (even if its for another product).
This is the kind of thing that people research in their garages on the weekend.

For starters...The end barrels that a user would twist to bring displays close together - or apart. The joint in the center to easily adjust the angle between displays while not disturbing the height. The damper mechanisms inside the stands to allow fluid and easy height adjustment.

Very clever design.

Or maybe you've seen the above in other dual display stands?

No, it is. Anytime Apple releases a new product, or even a patent disclosure. it's always a race to the bottom with people chiming in on how outrageously priced it will be. The higher the better - more forum cred and outrage. In essence, creating a straw man to knock the product down.

Much easier than discussing the merits/demerits of the design; which would take a wee bit of thought.

But Why would I want a double stand, when I can just have two screens with one stand each? Separate displays are more costumizeable than two in one stand.

Not sure how this is comparable to a VESA arm because it looks like 2 desktop stands spread apart. There is no swing arm movement that is typical of VESA mounts. And it takes up more space on the desk surface. The closest resemblance to a shipping product is the Ergotron which provides more range of motion and a 10 year warranty:

Apple is expensive. Always was and always will be so commenting on price all the time becomes boring.

Just look how much they charge for a cable.

So we can either accept it that we pay premium because they care about how things look (not always for better but in most case yes) or we can go to the competition, pay less but have ugly products as companies still don't seem to care how things look.

Good design is what every company should strive for.
