Maybe Apple will just do away with cable and go Bluetooth or some other WiFi signal in a few years. Until then, Apple is once again dipping into our pockets as I don't want to have to pay for an adapter to use my headphones because some form over function designer has a hair up his/her....

I'm fine with half-height. I'm fine with quarter-height. I'm fine with a Lightning port. I use Bluetooth headphones and Bluetooth audio in my car. I'm not sure my 6+ has ever had anything plugged into the headphone jack. They could switch to Bluetooth only and I'd be perfectly happy.

What are your thoughts on this Apple patent of a half height 3.5mm headphone jack? I'm not a fan..

As it is pretty much the same as completely removing the 3.5 (and by doing so forceing users who want/need wired headphones into proprietary hardware or adapters) it is nothing that appeals to me in any way...it is pretty much the same as all the other drawbacks of thin-mania:
iPhone gets thinner -> camera does not fit anymore and due to sticking out is much more prudent to damage (plus usability when putting down on table sucks without a case)
iPhone gets thinner -> despite more effective cpu and other components no gain in battery life which means for some (i can't say how many, but I am among those almost every day) to get thrue a working day requires a battery case and thus voiding the "advantage" of a .5mm thinner phone
