There are millions pf people across the planet that use two or more displays with their desktops and find no problems with the relatively huge gaps between them. They could make this work with a pixel or less gap if they wanted too, just like micro LED displays.

You’re comparing a desktop display, which is significantly larger over a iPhone/smart phone display, which conjoining such a small display area makes a significant difference in the improvement of viewing content. Also, those are totally different type of ‘use cases’ for desktops having separate displays versus a smart phone with a foldable display Where it’s necessary to have the displays fused together. What you’re comparing is not mutually exclusive with a desktop.

You may think me mad, but for actually doing multiple things, I like 2 separate screens over one larger one.
It just seems easier to expand 2 apps to be full screen, on two screens side by side.

With my PC, I now have an ultrawide monitor, but in a way, it felt nicer and esier to control when I had 2 screens side by side, and I could have say a web browser full screen on one screen and my other program full screen on the other.

The difference is that this uses two regular devices, each of which can be used on its own. When placed together, they operate in a combined mode. They can also share other resources when placed together, not just display, if you read the patent.
And the MS duo doesn’t do all that? From what I saw it operates as one screen based on the app

You aren’t getting it. This is two separate devices. Like your iphone and my iphone. Stick them together and it turns into a single combined device.

What? Someone did a fake Apple video of two iPads coming together years ago with mag lock sensors on the side, and Apple are only now just getting the patent?

Never surprised to read the "I don't want it so Apple shouldn't make it" comments. 🤦‍♂️

So you think that due to magnets, a bezel/hinge/whatever would magically disappear when the two displays are stuck together? ...there will be some type of bezel...I fully get it. I just find it comical when someone says something along the lines of “finally Apple figured it out” or “glad it was Apple that solved this problem.”
Apple has been notorious for not being the first to “figure it out”...they usually wait and see...hence the Apple Pencil.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I never said anything about a hinge or bezel disappearing. I merely said that what the patent is talking about is bringing two independent devices next to each other, causing them to share resources and extend to create one display. This can be done by sticking it in a folio with spots for the two of them, laying them down flat next to each other, or whatever. This is different than what Microsoft does, which is two displays permanently attached to a single device.

All go for image alignment across multiple displays. The drama for me is in how Apple will screw up the implementation.

What would be nice is an iPhone that can turn into a mac if connected to external monitor. That would be interesting, and it could also have the form of Microsoft Duo, which looks very nice. Foldable phones with plastic screen is just dumb...
