Being a 5s user, I'm new to Apple Pay now that I've added the watch. I've found that if I use a "My Panera" card (loyalty card) prior to purchase that Apple Pay fails every time. If I purchase without the card, it works every time. Cashiers haven't a clue why, nor do I. Ideas? Similar experiences? Thanks!

I use the loyalty card and apple pay but I have them just look up my number first instead of swiping a physical loyalty card.

Could be that because Loyalty cards are data trackers and since it knows who you are and you are not using your CC to pay it is confused. Of course it should treat :apple:Pay as similar to cash. Could be a bug they need to work out.

I've used Apple Pay on both my iPhone 6 and now my Apple Watch at Panera using a My Panera card without issue. I use the small keychain version of the My Panera card with magnetic stripe.

Must be an issue with the POS system at your Panera location. I know the Panera location I go to upgraded all of their POS systems over the past few months. For a while they only had one or two terminals that could take Apple Pay.

Thanks, that's interesting. Question... do you swipe your keychain card at the POS terminal, or do you give it to the cashier to swipe behind the register? Just occurred to me that might be the issue (not sure if I can do that or not - always just give my card to the cashier).

I give my "My Panera" card to cashier.

Perhaps you could call :apple:
That's really strange behavior.

I've never had a problem using both my "My Panera" card and Apple Pay, except when I get stuck in the line that mysteriously has no tap to pay terminal installed.

I'm pretty sure swiping the card yourself is not an option here. I've never seen anyone do it.

If it has a magnetic stripe, 90% of the time, it can be swiped yourself on the payment terminal, so long as they have a customer facing payment terminal. I swipe all gift cards to places, club cards like Safeway and CVS and other store rewards, as well as the Panera card myself all of the time. The only ones you can't swipe yourself are cards with only a barcode., and no stripe.
