I kind of stopped caring for using Apple Pay for in person payments once all my cards got tap to pay since I'm old school and don't care about living my entire life on the phone lifestyle
If I happen to notice they accept Apple Pay before I start to pull out my debit card then I will use Apple Pay because I find it slightly quicker to use. It takes several extra seconds to take the card out, enter the pin and put the card back.

apple pay via the Uber app in the UK wasn't working well.... but apple pay transactions 45 mins later in the local pub worked fine... weird glitch.. i could have just used a saved card, but meh...

For debit card purchases, I recommend running it as credit (don't enter your pin) so there is no risk of your pin being leaked.

Couldnt withdraw from bank earlier but used apple pay online for lunch and at gas station right before that. Then applepay 3 hrs later at gas station for wifes car. Bank withdrawal worked just now.

I don’t understand why people use debut cards at retail. I pay my credit card bills more than weekly, so I don’t carry a balance, but there is too much risk giving everyone access to my bank account and fraud resolution is much harder with debit.

A friend just had debit card fraud so the bank locked him out of his accounts until they could resolve it. He couldn’t pay rent, run his business, anything.

That's my opinion too, but I didn't feel like this is the right place to bring it up so I didn't suggest it in my comment.

Is this somehow connected to why my iCloud payments are being declined? My CC is active and details haven’t changed but starting a day or two ago, its saying payment failed.

I do wish that MR would clarify where these issues are happening. Preferable in the title/headline - or at least the first paragraph of the article.

I had an issue with Apple Pay this morning. However, I think that the problem was with the retailer and their systems. If you identify the country up top, it would save me reading through to check whether it might have affected me in the UK.

Something else that’s strange. I got a few emails last night saying that my cards had been deactivated from ApplePay, but when I check the wallet they all seem to be there.

One nice thing about tap-to-pay is that the transaction does not transmit the credit card information itself. As such, it uses a special encoded data transfer that is essentially just about impossible for a hacker to access. This is even more secure than the EMV chip found on most debit and credit cards since 2013 in the USA.
This! I still occasionally run into people who don't use Apple Pay because they think it might be less safe than a credit card, and I have to explain how it's actually safer (less useful data is transferred), along with being fast and convenient. These days I only take my wallet out a couple times a month.

I'm the same way. In fact I don't even have a debit card anymore. Bank gave me one but then a few years ago something came up (I don't remember exactly what) so I asked if I could just get an ATM card instead and they said sure. I never used the debit card when I had it since my CC has too many advantages like protection, added warranty coverage, 2% cash back on everything and I they carry the balance for 30-60 days meaning my money is earning for me up until the due date. And I carry a couple of $50's in my wallet for emergencies.

The tap-to-pay cards work the same way: it only transmits a specially encrypted code that no hacker can use. I do think we may see an upgrade where you will have to enter a four to six digit code when you do tap to pay, something that's been commonly used in Europe for several years.
