I have an Apple Pay cash account setup and have only been able to use it at a McDonalds. Tried two other retail stores that accept Apple Pay but they did not accept the Apple Pay cash account.

How is the usage been for anyone trying to use the Apple Pay account to pay for goods at a retail store?

I wonder if these stores where it did not work need some update on their end or it will just take some time to roll out this new feature???

My limited understanding is that the merchant must A.) accept Apple Pay, and B.) accept Discover cards in order for Apple Pay Cash to work at said merchant's POS terminal.

I have not personally tried this since I have zero interest in Apple Pay Cash and have not configured it on my iPhone.

I posted a thread that is sort of similar to this,

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apple-pay-cash-wallet-debit-and-cc-issue.2093244/

But I too have had mixed results, for instance at the Grocery store(Stater Brothers), it worked, but they read it as a CC and I actually had to sign a receipt, just like you do for a CC.

At the local gas station(Arco) that does takes Apple Pay, the machine wouldn't accept it, because apparently they only accept ATM cards not CC.

Now I also used it at some random store and it wanted the PIN, which is by default 0000, and it still took about 3 times for it to go through.

So It's been a bit of a learning curve.

The problem is that Apple Pay Cash is a Discover card. The place not only has to accept contactless payments but also has to take Discover as well.

They should have partnered with Visa/MasterCard. *shakes head*

It’s essentially a special prepaid Discover card with some financial services provided to Apple by Green Dot Bank. I am not familiar with Green Dot Bank.. It seems they could have used a bank that would provide more coverage. I guess the main function is to send money to friends that have setup the Apple Pay cash account (In my case maybe my son)...

I think it is going to one of those features that in theory might be useful however in practice it does not have much value...

I think it will be useful with family and friends, however, I would just transfer any cash someone sent me via apple pay right into my checking account

I have found some places accept Apple Pay on credit cards but not debit cards. The person at one place told me that Apple Pay doesn't work at all with debit cards which is ... cause it works fine at all the other places I use it. Not ready for the ability to not carry card with me yet. Too bad I like using it
