Wow I've been really curious to use Apple Pay! In 2014, that is.

After all this time that it hasn't made its way to Europe, I kinda don't see the point anymore.

question:
can you send apple pay cash to a person whose apple ID is associated with a different country than where your apple ID is registered?
or, do both apple IDs need to be within the same country?
what are the international limits for how much you can send?

Has anyone used Apple cash yet? I get how to pay the other person (just like PayPal, etc.), but how does the other person turn it into cash? Or are they stuck with “credit” that can only be used where Apple Pay is allowed?

Guess I should do some research but was wondering if anyone knew firsthand.

In Poland the Apple Pay Cash setup displays in the Apple Watch app in Wallet section, but not on the iPhone counterpart.

If Europe means France, UK and a select few others only then thanks but it doesn't work for me.
Maybe it's because there's a similar service here called MB WAY? I rather use Apple's but they don't seem interested in making the service available EVERYWHERE.
The general consensus is that it all comes down to Apple negotiating the terms of an Apple Pay deal with banks. I'm sure it's in Apple's best interest to offer it in as many countries as possible, but there are ones that are pretty set in their ways like in Austria, where the infrastructure and market for such a service exists, but the banks remain unaffected.
And then people complain.

That is the idea, to use the "Cash" function without the cash part :D

If the other person can’t convert my electrons into cotton-based paper with pictures of dead historical figures, it’s a bit useless to me. I’m trying to skip hitting the ATM for cash, not eliminate cash entirely.

You can deposit it into your bank account if you don’t want to spend it as Apple Pay.

From the article itself:
"The card's funds can then be used to make purchases using Apple Pay in stores, in apps, and on supported websites, or withdrawn to a bank account within one to three business days."

Thanks.

If everyone in the UK launched they mobile banking app, registered for paym, you wouldn't need to use third party apps like this. paym allows immediate transfers between UK banks account using their mobile number as their ID and it's owned and supported by the major banks - no third party. It also works between anyone who has a UK bank account and a mobile number. Don't know why the banks don't market this more.

Let's start with the basics first, shall we.
Launch Apple watch 4G, HomePod and Apple Pay for example... Just to name a few...

Apple Pay Cash, Apple's mobile peer-to-peer payments service, could be available sooner rather than later in some European markets.

When Apple Pay Cash does arrive outside the U.S., Apple device owners wanting to use it will need an iPhone 6 and later, iPhone SE, any iPad Pro model, a fifth-generation iPad, iPad Air 2, or iPad mini 3 running iOS 11.2 or later.

Update: One MacRumors reader has found a link to an Apple Pay Cash support page localized for Austria, while support pages have also been discovered for Italy, Poland, Sweden, and Russia.

I'm glad they are expanding this. I really liked Apple Pay when I was in the UK. Pity it's not available here in Greece yet! (would have come in handy back when we had capital controls!) Though perhaps that's why we never got it. Two years later though, and the capital controls are gone, yet Apple Pay is still nowhere in sight. Oh well, I can but dream!

Yes.
I use the Natwest app to send "cash" already… Use it for my window cleaners every 4 weeks. :)

Is localization network based? Bank based? What about US tourists in Europe?

For that matter, does anyone know if a US tourist can update iOS overseas without any localization issues? (Except of course things that change when you’re using iOS like dates, times, GPS etc...)

How about making "Apple Pay Cash" compatible with all iOS 12 devices like my iPhone 5S?

Wasn‘t there a rumor about Bank Austria starting apple pay this fall? It‘s the only reason that‘s keeping me there - but seems paradox when you consider their horrendous online-banking.

Good OP. It's been quite a while we've had a blurry picture in an article - It instantly increases the probability of the story to be true, by 200%!

Hope Denmark will be included.
There's no danish translation of the support page, so not likely I would assume.
