(RED) today announced that the annual Apple Pay donation campaign raised a total of $3 million this year for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Apple's donation was capped at $3 million, so it reached that cap.

"Thank you, Apple and Apple customers for hitting this incredible milestone and helping provide life-saving healthcare in vulnerable communities," said (RED).

Last month, Apple announced that it would again donate $5 to The Global Fund for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store from November 29 through December 8.

The Global Fund aims to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria throughout the developing world. Apple said its donation to the organization will continue to "help fund critical health programs that save lives."

Apple runs this donation campaign ahead of World AIDS Day on December 1 each year.

Apple has supported The Global Fund for 18 years through its partnership with the (RED) brand, co-founded by U2 singer Bono. Apple offers some products in a (PRODUCT)RED color, and a portion of the proceeds from every one of these products sold by Apple goes to The Global Fund. Apple said it has raised more than $250 million to date.

The number of Apple products available in (PRODUCT)RED has dwindled in recent years.

They should have said “thank you Apple customers” instead of thanking Apple also. The customer is paying and Apple is ripping the customer. So why thanks to Apple?

I’ve no problem donating for the RED fund. But making Apple a hero is odd.

Did you read the article? Apple is clearly making the donation from the monies that customers spend. How exactly is Apple "ripping" anyone? Apple deserves, at least the majority of the thanks, because they didn't have to run this donation campaign at all. One could argue that the customers deserve a nod as well but honestly, how many people do you think ordered specifically because they knew of this campaign and wanted to be part of it? IMHO Apple had a number they wanted to donate and created a campaign that would satisfy that number.

Amazing how "doing good" is never doing good enough.

Well it’s money from Apple customers so Apple should thank the customers for making this possible.

The acknowledgement and thanks, to both Apple and their customers, is coming from Red not Apple. It is (RED)s announcement and they are the one issuing thanks to the parties involved, Apple is not involved in this.

I am not sure how you are missing this.

Than Red should have said: thank you Apple customers for making this happen 😊

Sure I’ve read and not missed it.

My god man they literally did, it is right here:

"Thank you, Apple and Apple customers for hitting this incredible milestone and helping provide life-saving healthcare in vulnerable communities," said (RED).

How can you possibly miss it?!?!?! (RED) literally thanked Apple customers (along with Apple).

Again though, how can you not comprehend that Apple is the one making the donation?!?! Apple setup the campaign and donated $5 per order, Apple deserves thanks for the donation.

Maybe you’re the one not understanding. Where comes the money from? You say from Apple and I say WRONG!

It’s from the consumers who buy Apple products. As another person here mentioned before… in the time that I’m typing this Apple has made already more money then they’re giving away with a campaign sponsored by consumers.

It’s cheap advertising for Apple. The same as they’re greenwashing their products. If they would care for the environment they would have made their products reparable and upgradable. Not glueing and soldering everything together so it has a shorter live span.

As with the little donation with a campaign that runs a long time: it’s cheap misleading advertisement

Wow, this is stunningly frustrating.

Apple created a donation campaign where they (APPLE) donate $5 per order placed, capped at 3 million. The money is literally coming from Apple, via customer orders. As I mentioned before, I bet the overwhelming number of customers that ordered during this campaign had no idea it was even going on, how then do they deserve any thanks?!?!

Customers were NOT donating $5 themselves on top of their order and having that passed on by Apple.

And where does that money come from Apple is using?

Um....

The money is literally coming from Apple, via customer orders.

Now, I will try to wrap this up...

Why did the customers order? Because Apple makes products they want.
Without the products, no customer orders, no customer monies paid to Apple.
Without Apple having the desire to make a donation to (RED) via this campaign, no donation. Apple could have literally skipped the campaign and pocketed all the money, but they didn't.

No customers, no Apple 😜

I'm out, you have clearly demonstrated you are not debating in good faith.
It’s hard to debate in good faith when Apple proofs time after time again they’re the ones purely focused on money instead of pure change.

It’s very cheap advertisement for Apple. A ad campaign will cost them 10 fold at the minimum. Now they’ve the same results for a fraction of the price.

And while I’m typing this they’ve already reaped another 30 million from customers.

So, they shouldn’t have donated any money then? Since all of their money is coming from their customers? Or what is your point?

And now controlled.
Precisely. The progress that has been made with this virus is incredible and we are a decade or so away from eradicating it.
People who don’t have access to proper education or healthcare and rape victims will probably strongly disagree with you.

Also, basically you’re playing the blame game putting all responsibility and stigma on the patient.
You’re focusing on the 1%. The death rate from this virus has plummeted and it will soon be a thing of the past. Yet cancer rates are increasing. Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Heart disease, etc. are all significantly bigger issues in healthcare today.
What an absolute vile thing to write.
What did they write that is “vile” in the least bit? See what I wrote above.

Anyone who applauds this is delusional. This is just virtue signalling... Remember that 3,000,000 dollars is ONE MILLIONTH of 3,000,000,000,000 dollars which is still significantly less than their near 4BN$ market cap.
That's 0.000075%...

In fact it's 0.0000075 x their 2024's (nearly) 400,000,000,000 dollar revenue, or to put it in time terms:
0.003 day's revenue.
or just short of 4 minute's revenue out of 525,000 or so minutes of 2024.

Make no mistake, they are PURELY doing this for optics and to get their name mentioned. They are a money machine, they couldn't give two squirts of pee about disease or anything other than their bottom line... hence a market cap rapidly approching 4,000,000,000,000 DOLLARS while their shop staff still get less than $20 per hour average.... (to put that into perspective, I used to get $16 per hour in 1991 to keep printers clean).

Anyone who sees this in a positive light is making the situation worse by making it seem as if something meaningful was achieved by this 3,000,000 dollar "donation"... It's basically the "THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS" of the business world.

NOTE: These stats were provided by Google so could be complete bollocks.
