Anyone who applauds this is delusional.
This is a very sad take on corporate donations/philanthropy, but not completely without merit. (see below)
This is just virtue signalling
Make no mistake, they are PURELY doing this for optics and to get their name mentioned.
One could argue that this fits any corporate donation, virtue signaling, "advertising" or tax purposes. Giving money away would have to fit some purpose as it would generally not be in the best interest of shareholders.
True donations/philanthropy generally come from foundations (though even these can be exploited) or from individuals.
In fact it's 0.0000075 x their 2024's (nearly) 400,000,000,000 dollar revenue, or to put it in time terms:
0.003 day's revenue.
or just short of 4 minute's revenue out of 525,000 or so minutes of 2024.
Anyone who sees this in a positive light is making the situation worse by making it seem as if something meaningful was achieved by this 3,000,000 dollar "donation"
Again, the total dismissal of 3 million dollars by some here is staggering. I cannot be bothered to look up the operating budget of this organization, but I doubt that 3 mil is inconsequential. For those that imply it is not enough, I would remind you that Apple makes other donations, would you prefer that Apple's donation budget be spent in one place and not spread out amongst worthy causes (disaster relief, etc.)? Would you prefer they not donate at all?
I would also be interested in hearing from the naysayers... how much of your income did you donate this year? Something about stones, glass houses and such.
