I just read this https://techcrunch.com/2017/02/28/apple-pay-china-one-year-on/?ncid=rss about Apple Pay in China.
Should have gone with small countries in the European Union instead. We have the cards and terminals ready and iPhones everywhere. Would probably been a better investment..
But this got me thinking about another problem. In the near future when we are traveling abroad..how do we pay? Let's say I go visit asia. They want me to pay with AliPay or TenPay, an app I don't have, that probably should be linked with a bank account in the country. And all in a language I don't read or speak.
I haven't had any big problems yet but visiting Florida last year I learned that cash is still king when I realized that cash was the only option for road tolls. When I was in Amsterdam it was almost only MasterCard accepted at shops. Had to find an ATM that accepted Visa and get cash.
I work at a airport in Norway and everyday customers ask if we accept this or that card. And now I understand why they ask. Before I always thought Visa/MasterCard worked everywhere there was a card terminal. Since we are situated at an airport we have to accept them all and so far only some lesser known asian cards have been declined.
I even have customers paying with Apple Pay and it works fine, yet me myself can't get Apple Pay in my country.
