Honestly, I have not seen Discover out there in the wild in a long time. Visa and MC seem to be the big boys followed by Amex. Surprising how many others there are also with low penetration. Not knocking Discover, but how many people use this?

Somewhere around 60 million in the US. It's ahead of AmEx.

Why wait?

Open an account at a bank that supports apple pay and have part of your paycheck deposited there.

I prefer my local credit union reap the benefits of holding my money. They do a ton in the community and have been very good to us, so I prefer to do business with them.

They've already announced that they'll support Apple Pay back when it was announced. Just a matter of time, I guess. I hope?

I feel like it's easier to just list the ones that aren't supported at this point.

Ummmm... there are over 5,000 different banks and credit unions in the US.

And Apple currently has 450 of them.

So we've still got a ways to go.

I had written to my bank (State Farm Bank) at the start of ApplePay to inquire when they would be implementing it and was told that they had no plans to do so. Recently they updated their app to allow in app ApplePay when paying for insurance premiums, etc. So that prompted me to write to them again and ask them why they are accepting ApplePay, but not implementing it for their bank customers. I just got this reply back:

Thank you for contacting State Farm Bank®.
While State Farm Bank is currently not a participating bank of Apple Pay, Apple Pay will be available to qualified State Farm Bank VISA consumer credit and debit cardholders in the coming months. We apologize for the inconvenience.

So at least they have had a change of heart. It really won't matter that much to me as my current main credit cards already have ApplePay support. It won't mean that much to me to gain it for my checking account debit card, but still glad to see them coming on board eventually.

Don't something like 90%+ of Americans have access to at least one card from someone that supports Apple Pay? More banks isn't really the issue any more (though it is nice that more are signing on).

My Apple Watch is prompting me to add Apple Pay in Canada.

Then I noticed a tweet by Moneris (the major distributor of debit terminals in Canada) tweeting about Canadian businesses getting ready for Apple Pay.

So I asked my neighbour who's a Moneris rep: "It's coming" he said. Won't say when. Damn tease.
