I think Apple Pay is fantastic, but like others have said, it's lacking in availability. I make 99% of my purchases at my grocery store, gas station, and place of work, all 3 of which do not support Apple Pay. I do, however, use it for purchases in apps such as Starbucks. Very handy.

My use of Apple Pay would increase exponentially if it simply was available.

I only started using apple pay this week. Very cool.
Canada only has Amex right now, but I hear Master Card is coming next.

MasterCard and Visa are both only available through the banks in Canada, so there's no way they'll be next. That's why the only Amex cards that work with ApplePay are the ones directly from Amex, and not also the ones you can get through a bank. It's either the banks will finally accept ApplePay or it'll remain Amex exclusive in Canada. I got an Amex card just for ApplePay. No regrets!

Something I was wondering though - how does it work with the watch? Do you just wave the watch at the terminal, or does it need the fingerprint too?

Just wondering how you do it one handed with the watch.

Love Apple Pay in the UK. A fair amount of support for it here. I feel insulted when a store makes me get my wallet out, like "who do you think you are making me put all this effort in to give you money" lol

Just have to wave the watch. Apple Pay is verified from the iPhone. If the Apple Watch detects loss of contact with the skin, Apple Pay automatically becomes disabled. This way, if it's stolen or you leave it behind, it cannot be used to make purchases.

Thanks - I figured it must be that, otherwise it would be a bit of a faff.

Presumably the fingerprint is used during set up to connect the phone to the watch and authorise the watch.

Only started using it recently, and absolutely love it.

I'm often out with my phone in my hand for music so it's incredibly convenient.

Be good if they could incorporate store loyalty cards into it though - if the point is to eliminate the need to get your wallet out, then it's a shame you still need to get it out for the loyalty cards.

It now supports the Walgreen's loyalty card. You have to Touch ID twice: loyalty card + credit card.

I've actually starting using Apple Pay alot more this year. Before i used it a few times here or there like at McDonalds.

But now i use it at least every week when I shop at Trader Joes/whole foods.
There are a few food trucks/restaurants near my work that accept Apple Pay too.

Actually it seems like Apple is trying to make agreements with the card networks in some countries now instead of the banks. The idea that it'll be mandatory for the bank to support it on that card network.

I'm in the UK and have been using Apple Pay since it launched last July.

It's great; although I need to enter my PIN periodically I feel "safer" because only I'm authorised to make payments (and therefore should be better placed to spot fraudulent transactions).

My biggest bugbear is the fact a lot of places accept contactless payments but they are limited to £30. Granted there are places that are only capped by what's in my bank account/available to spend on my credit card.

Although it's now possible to add your Tesco Clubcard to the Wallet app it's only in certain locations.... Given I have a few Loyalty cards and that the feature has been available since iOS 9 launched it's annoying I still have to carry those cards around with me.

I've been using ApplePay since I got my 6s. I'm fairly impressed with its ease of use. I use it at least twice a month…. which is actually pretty good, considering I'm an old-school I-still-carry-cash-all-the-time type.

My use of ApplePay will increase as it becomes an ingrained habit, and as more stores support it.

I wish it would finally come to germany.... But banks see no need in offering it here. Afaik there's not even 1 electronic payment method available.

Apple Pay on eBay would be huge & great way to bypass PayPal. Now that eBay has divested PP I wonder if that is doable.

The separation between the two companies honestly felt like they were kicking and screaming while doing that, so I feel like they still have a very close relationship and therefore, I don't see that happening.

I certainly will be extremely happy to be proven wrong, though.

The problem with Apple Pay is lack of places to use it. MST is the next big thing for Apple Pay. It works great on my S6 Edge, I can use it anywhere. I'd love to see Apple pick up this technology.

Please don't use that phrase "the next big thing". Makes you feel like a walking advert. I just read an article about MST and while it is a clever use of an existing technology the article said the issue with the technology is it can't accept other types of cards besides credit cards like ID cars and Subway cards and things.

Yep, I was chatting with one of the managers in Morrisons, they have a cardboard collar around every card terminal boasting they accept Apple Pay, although it's still limited to £30. I was trying to impress upon him how they could, and should, have the limit removed because as a business, you want to make it as easy as possible to spend as much as possible.

Most people in the supermarket spend more than £30 on normal weekly shopping, making it useless for them.

As for usage, I could probably get through most weeks using Apple Pay 100% if the limit was lifted.

I hope in-web-site payments become a reality, as this guarantees that you won't need to use a blown-up iPhone app on an iPad for purchases. Recently, Target discontinued their iPad app, pointing people to their responsive web site instead. My first thought was, "But what about Apple Pay?"

Be good if they could incorporate store loyalty cards into it though - if the point is to eliminate the need to get your wallet out, then it's a shame you still need to get it out for the loyalty cards.

Some places can accept loyalty cards via NFC (this was added as of iOS 9 and now up to the merchants). I'd like to see more, especially in places that currently do loyalty cards with barcodes and accept Apple Pay. Supposedly Panera and Dunkin' Donuts are going to add this feature soon (according to Apple's site).

Does Apple Pay guarantee money back if you don't get your stuff though?

It's whatever your credit/debit card agreement includes (so in most cases, yes). Essentially, you could just think of it as a second card pointed to your account. Just as you'd be covered for fraudulent activity on that, you would with Apple Pay. The same method for detection/reporting/etc. would also apply through your issuer.

Cause of Starbucks and subway, I've been using it there many times. I hate chip cards, they take forever, don't provide any extra security (cause we're not using the pin yet) and a lot of times they do t work well. I want Apple Pay everywhere I go.

You should do some reading on chipped cards.

First of all, they are more secure. A one time token is way more secure than static data used on the magnetic stripe from a POS perspective. Second, it's much more difficult to clone the chip on those cards.

Also, Visa & MasterCard have recently rolled out new technology with these EMV chip transactions that allows the consumer to put the chip in the slot before the transaction is finalized, wait a couple of seconds, and then pull the card out.

With that said, I won't hold my breath on Wendy's accepting it. Their CEO is childish. Just read his reaction to the data breach and why they won't accept chipped cards.

Ability to pay in websites would be a very welcome addition. Peer-to-peer would be interesting as well, especially if integrated with Siri...

"Hey Siri, send $10 to John for tacos." Then simply authenticate with Touch ID.

Meanwhile at Apple...

I don't see how that's possible. Apple would've went that route with everyone else a year and a half ago instead of just trying this out now. You would need both approval from the card networks and the banks... The banks are responsible for the security of the card.
