I think they've rolled out contactless ready terminals to all stores. They are Ingenico iPP300 series terminals.

The Asda stores I use have the same terminals but the same cannot be said for Tesco which still has old terminals.
The only reason Sainsburys hasn't had contactless turned on until now is because its current POS software doesn't support it. They've been having trouble over the last year or two getting the updated POS software onto some of its more rural stores.

The current software is pretty useless. It even has trouble with Chip and Signature cards in some stores where you can't remove the card until the Yes the signature matches button has been pressed (Otherwise the transaction cancels). Kind of impossible to verify the signature if the card is in the terminal!

I think it's worth pointing out that £30 is roughly the same as $15,000, or something like that

yep no supermarkets yet almost disappointed and the local bp garage doesn't accept contactless

maybe i'm being a wee bit selfish though you'd think with millions of iPhones etc a new modern method of payment would be available.
Morrisons has been taking contact less for ages.

I use it at M&S and Starbucks quite frequently, and it works every time. Haven't tried it in Boots yet.

I haven't tried to use it at the new Central Station store, though I only get on a train maybe a few times a month.

What I still don't understand is that some of the UK's largest retailers don't even support contactless yet. I'm looking at you Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's.

I think Tesco is on its way out, and ASDA is just too big to give a ****. Even ALDI supports contactless now, probably just to add to the 'hurry the **** up and leave' atmosphere at the checkout.

I had an email also from Halifax yesterday, although I signed up for a Santander credit card last month to p(l)ay
Hate the Santander CC app though, you can't even make a payment through it! Barclays is so much easier.

I believe they use the same tills and hardware as M&S stores. The PIN Pads are identical to the ones used in M&S-owned stores.

Might just have been user error in my case. Also I have an Amex card as my default. Sometimes franchises don't accept these or the machines aren't configured for them. This happens in Costa sometimes.

The self service machines at Tesco often have contactless as a payment option on the screen but greyed out - not sure whether that's forward thinking on their part or using third party software. I favour the latter as forward thinking doesn't seem to be in their vocabulary at the moment.

My local Tesco store has the contactless option which is also greyed out. There's the PayQwik system they have launched for select customers in select stores (seemingly Inner London and Edinburgh).

Yeah I mentioned about the software in my first post in this thread. I learnt that from an earlier thread on Apple Pay - I think it might have been you that informed me of the limitation!

I can think of one Tesco store in Edinburgh which supports contactless and I understand most central London stores support. The rest have the option greyed out as you say.

I tried to sign up to PayQwik but they would only let me register my interest. Presumably this system is one of the reasons they aren't doing a full scale roll out of contactless.

I tried the same too when I noticed the option at my local store here in Derby.
