Apple pay on mac not working (iPhone XS)

Got my new XS yesterday, cannot get apple pay to work on my mac. It works if I purchase via the phone so it is set up correctly, but I keep getting an error "make sure iphone is close to the mac and bluetooth turned on" which it is.

Any ideas?

same issue. I have a MacBook 2012 retina.... wondering too old???
