Apple is offering an Apple Pay promotion this week that discounts Fandango movie tickets by $5 when you make a purchase using either the Fandango app or the Fandango.com website.

The discount will be available on movie ticket purchases made through January 2, according to the email that went out to Apple customers this morning. When you make a purchase using Apple Pay, you will need to use the promo code "AppleCheer" at checkout to get the Fandango discount.

In addition to providing the Fandango deal, Apple is also highlighting retail apps that accept Apple Pay and can be used for New Year's party planning, including Safeway, Party City, ULTA Beauty, Lyft, TouchTunes, and McDonald's.

Over the course of the two months, Apple has been promoting Apple Pay through a series of emails that include deals and discounts. A November, email, for example, offered a discount on a Postmates Unlimited subscription.

Now that's pretty cool. Extremely sad there's still no support for Apple Pay in my country, but I love how Apple actually promotes the payment service through these kind of offers. Jealous!

More like $3.50 off after fees, but, hey, a discount is a discount.

It doesn't really -- not compared to offers direct from Visa or ChasePay. ApplePay offers are very rare and usually unexciting. Apple could do a much better job here.

Code isn’t working- tried on both the app and the website, tried logged in and as guest. Says something about being invalid or expired.

Totally agree. I've lost track of how many times I've seen promos for MasterPass and Visa's payment service, but Apple Pay promos are few and very, very far between.

Doesn't work for me either. Says

Sorry, an error has occurred.
Sorry, the code entered is either invalid or the promotion has ended

What a shame Apple don't offer a similar kind of incentive here in the U.K through Apple Pay; mind we can't purchase tickets for the movies via Siri (like you can in the U.S) so that's perhaps why?

Add me to the list. Just tried to use the AppleCheer promo code in conjunction with having the payment method set to Apple Pay and the code isn’t valid.

I tried it too .. Both on the App & Safari (via website)... Didn't work. Says Code invalid or expired. I tried it during different times in the day 'coz I thought may be the article was a tad too soon and that the code wasn't enabled already.

On the email, I didn't receive one too.

Do you have announcements enabled under subscriptions enabled in settings?

Yes I have Announcements selected, Not sure that is the cause. I have it selected but didn't get any email today.

Wow, that makes the movie tickets somewhat overpriced - instead of ridiculously overpriced! :D
Try popcorn or just a soft drink. Even places like theme parks or sports/entertainment venues that typically have rather high prices for basics like that are still not as expensive it seems.

Least sincere promotion I've ever seen. Code not working. Waited in line for one and half hour to get to Fandango's customer service and was told the supply has exhausted and "Apple offered this, not Fandango". Fine. Makes no difference in life with or without Fandango and Apple Pay.
