I recommend to visit the Panera Breads site and compare it to the promo text...😂🤣 Apple cooperates with a spin-off from JAB-Holding (the history of the company during the 1940s should not be a topic here FYI) and wants to be seen as a generous philanthropist. Yeah right! I do not applaud bs. What a joke!

Panera is owned by the same company that owns Peet's Coffee, and while Panera isn't at Peet's level, I find it to be better than Starbuck's.

You brought back a sad memory for me.

Back before COVID-19, my daily train commute to work would take me past Specialty's Bakery in Seattle, which served Peet's coffee (I love Major Dickason's) and made amazing pastries and quiches - a great place to pick up breakfast. Unfortunately Specialty's went under - permanently - around May 1 due to the effects of the pandemic (both the enforced shut-down and the overall drop in commuter business).

RIP, Specialty's - I miss you.

Panera is decent for food. I frequent them less and less since they dropped their legendary Raspberry Thumbprint cookies. What a shame. I always went for those cookies, and then added on other things like sandwiches, muffins, bagels, etc.

Get the the scientific facts. Besides being an addictive drug, coffee is highly oxidizing because it has a built-in oxygen peroxide generator (as tea as well and wine). It has also acrylamide (neurocarcinogen) due to high temperatures. In summary, it is mutagenic and carcinogenic, as anything smoked (including smoke itself) or burnt, including food. Get the facts!

Appreciate you mentioning this. I doubt it’s going to change one of my loves—cold brew—but it’s at least a good reminder to minimize.

I believe everything in moderation is a motto to live by. Regarding coffee, studies have also shown it reduces the risk of many forms of cancer.

How can a person conceivably dislike something free for 4 months? Quit trolling.

I just signed up for it and am very appreciative of the offer! They need the business and cross sales. Going tomorrow morning!
Why is this a great "free" deal? Maybe you missed it in the original article, but there are strings attached. One has to cancel beyond the "free" period if they don't want to pay the $8.99/mo subscription. That to me ratchets down the level of how great the deal is. And while I like Panera, since lockdown I haven't been there once, even though there are two in my area that are very close.

Nice spin on the definition of the word "trolling" btw, taken as you don't agree with my comment.

I used to sit in Panera for a couple hours doing studying during college drinking their coffee, it was pretty good. If it was free like it is with this offer it would have even been better. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, I don't think too many people are camping out inside coffee shops studying/working, so the offer isn't that great.

Seems like there are often some studies of one sort or another with some touting some negative effects and others positive effects. There appears to be a collection of facts saying a variety of things.

Having strings attached means there are conditions, restrictions, or obligations that need to be met before you can get your free coffee, hot tea, or iced coffee. There's no such requirement, therefore there are zero strings attached.

Having to cancel in or before 4 months to avoid paying the regular $8.99/mo subscription fee is not considered strings. And as I stated earlier, it takes less than 30 seconds to cancel through the app. I should know, I've already done it once before.

Afraid you might forget? Set a reminder to cancel on your iPhone a day or two or even 1 week before the free offer expires.

We have a different way of looking at this as my expectation of free, is free with no strings.

But as I stated in my original post, this is my viewpoint on this and I don't care if it takes 1 second to cancel. It's another to-do in my already busy life that I don't feel is worth the time/effort to address. YMMV and that is perfectly fine and acceptable for those who want to partake.
