A friend with an iPhone X is experiencing the same thing. Since the buttons are solid, I have a hard time believing we're double clicking it accidentally.

Some days I walk about 16,000 steps. I would notice my lock screen always awake, the first week or so the iPhone X was out. Even made a thread about it, asking if raise to wake was too sensitive. Also noticed about half the time my Apple Pay screen was on in my pocket too. Shut off raise to wake and the phone has never triggered Apple Pay unintentional in my pockets since. Also saved a bit of battery too.
