AT&T universal card by Citi unsupported

I had a couple of long conversations with the Citibank reps. Despite the fact that the card is issued by Citibank, AT&T, as the branding partner, decided not to support ApplePay. This may be because AT&T has been pushing Softcard, formerly called ISIS Mobile Wallet, a competing NFC payment system, for the last two years.

I have been unable to find a contact number for AT&T customer service to request they support ApplePay. I suggest voting with your feet and no longer using your AT&T universal Card for any purchases until they change policy. Or, close your account.

Added my Citi card the first evening with no trouble. The verification was easy. The computer called my land line phone and gave me the verification code. I haven't actually tried to use it yet though.

Has anyone been able to successfully add a Citi Card to Apple Pay? I'm able to get to the final verification step and it says to contact Citi. I thought their cards were supported?

I have a CashReturns card in Apple Pay. What type of Citi card are you attempting to add?

It also won't verify if any of the details aren't exactly right. One of my cards is still with my former last name on it (I need to fix that, oops) and I forgot to change it in the Add screen, and it didn't go through. On the second attempt, once I changed the name, it went fine.

It's possible that a missing/different/present middle initial that doesn't exactly match what's on the card can also cause this.

This is interesting because one of the issues I had was that Citibank did not require any verification. It made me nervous because I started to think about how many places I hand my card to pay to a person that swipes it out of sight (e.g. restaurants). If it did not require verification then couldn't anyone just snap a photo and add it to their iPhone?

I have not confirmed this yet but I have preliminary information that if your iTunes account is registered to the same address as your Citicard, then no further verification is required.

I'll update if I have more information.

My Personal AAdvantage card was easy to set up and required no extra verification steps. My Business AAdvantage card gives me a message that says this card is not supported. Weird. I'll have to call Citi. Anyone else had issues with Citi's Business AAdvantage cards?

My Citi Cards failed on day one. Called Citi, and they said that due to a compromised merchant my wife and I were going to be receiving new Citi Cards and couldn't do the activation until the new cards came in. Last night the new cards activated fine.

BOA Debit Card, and Amex both activated fine. The only issue I have now is with Banana Republic Luxe card. I'm some what bitter about that.
