I seem to recall someone else having this same issue and Apple ended up changing out their iPad - the fault was there and was not customer fixable.

I got to say this is the most stupidest Apple has done. My wife’s iPad stopped charging turns out the port is bad. This is the first iPad we have ever had go bad. I have had an iPad since the first one came out. So we buy her a new iPad Pro M4 and find out her Apple 2nd gen is not compatible. After going to the Apple Store Genius Bar appointment the tech said we either hand to downgrade to the USB C pencil or upgrade to the Apple Pencil Pro. Anybody know why? This is really sneaky and underhanded. I could see a line in iPad OS where it says if this is an Apple iPad Pro m4 only pair and charge an Apple Pencil pro. What a crock of BS

Yes this was an unfortunate development with the M4 iPad Pros… the claim is that because they moved the Face ID / Front Camera to the landscape side (which is where the Pencil connects magnetically), they had to change the magnetic placements that attach the pencil to the side of the iPP. And so that meant 1) the new Pencil Pro has magnets placed at different spots (I think the ends of the pencil), and so it doesn’t attach to any previous iPad, and 2) the new iPad Pro only connects the new Pencil Pro (and the USB-C Pencil, because that also came out to work with the 10th Gen iPads which were the first to also move the front camera to the landscape edge)…

It does make logical sense why given that fact pattern. But it sure makes it annoying...

They moved the wireless charger as well. It used to be where the camera is now. Add the mini 7 to the list of iPads that no longer use the 2nd gen pencil.
