It's honestly just crazy that Apple doesn't include a stylus with their tablets. At most it should cost $40 MSRP.

As with many things Apple, the Pencils are expensive. That said, they are pretty remarkable technology in practice and offer so much more than a simple 'stylus'.

If you don't want to pay the Apple tax you can get something like this, which works fine for note-taking. It's not good enough for artists, but it does work really well as a stylus. I keep one in my travel bag - it's a lot less pain to lose this on the road vs my $130 Pencil.

Beware with high discounted Apple items from Amazon. Amazon is reselling returned Apple items and are not doing a good job of inspecting if they are resealable. I purchased a MagSafe wallet and the Amazon description never mentioned it was renewed. It was in bad shape all scratched up. I just saw one of the reviews for the Apple Pencil 2 in Amazon selling for 89.99 and they received screws. Since they have horrible customer service they make you wait longer to get credit for Apple products. Their explanation that Apple requires special processing of returns.
Just to add to my issue with Amazon. The MagSafe Wallet I returned because it was used. They charged me a restocking fee. Their reasoning was that I returned a used MagSafe Wallet. 😡

I saw this offer yesterday afternoon while I was thinking about one for my "new" M1 12.9" Pro. Fortunately, I have access to a Navy Exchange and they price match Amazon prices, so I ran right down there. Got the deal, in my hand, with no sales tax and then found out today that the price was back up to normal.

I don't usually get this lucky.

The price seems to have gone back up to $128 🤷‍♂️

Yep, not showing sale price

I saw this price show up yesterday at about noon pacific, so it lasted around 24 hours. 😳

Price is back up to 128.99 so looks like this deal is dead.

the price fluctuates. It was at the sale price last night. This morning it was regular price. Then about 2 hours ago it was at the sale price again

It’s 89.99 on Best Buy right now

Amazon prices fluctuate up and down throughout the day so buy it when you are comfortable with the price.

You just hope that them item shipped matches your expectation. Sometimes the "sold by Amazon" item gets mixed in with the "sold by 3rd party" and you can get some really "weird" stuff.

If it were a simple stylus, it works be worth about a dollar. For what it is, it costs 3 times what it should, and probably should be included with the tablet.

So it sounds like you did an analysis of the pencil's component prices, construction, R&D, etc to come up with your monetary statements and the mandatory inclusion in all pencils. You need to post your analysis in order for your statement to have credibility. If it's a guess or your personal desire of how things should be at Apple, then it's meaningless. Thanks.

It sounds like you've been monitoring my personal activities for some time. While I don't blame you for being obsessed, I do suggest you see a therapist.

Of COURSE my statement was one of the cost value I see in Apple's pencil vs other options. Because I care more about advocating for my own interests, and don't understand why anyone would self-sacrifice for the good of any corporation, I don't think we will ever have a meeting of the minds.

You are welcom.

The proper setup is iPad + Pencil...screw the keyboard. Attaching a keyboard to an iPad is why some people question is it better to get a MacBook instead. If the iPad is connected to a keyboard 90% of the time get a laptop.

Pencil + new 12.9" iPad Pro is great. Hover(ing) with my Pencil is the proper way to use an iPad.

So how did you type that message? If you really managed to use the Pencil to write that, then major props to you. Maybe I just need to practice more but I can't get more than about three words in with Scribble before I get frustrated and switch to on-screen or physical keyboard.

And the on-screen keyboard on iPad is not great. My biggest issue with that is god help me if I accidentally tap a millimeter too high and instantly collapse the keyboard and switch focus.

I typed the message using my Apple Magic Keyboard with my M1 Mac mini and LG 4K monitor.

I don't regularly use my 12.9" M2 iPad Pro for long-reply typing. If I write something with the Pencil it is typically 1 or 2 sentences.

However, I use Procreate like a notebook and I handwrite freely like it's pencil and paper.

Apple Notes is also good for handwriting. Touch the black screen to wake it and it goes straight to handwriting.

If you save handwriting as JPG in Photos it will recognize it. You can copy and paste. It is best to write neatly with letters if it will be recognized in Photos without too many mistakes.

Scribble does get better the more I use it and with OS upgrades. It is alright to use Pencil & keyboard in combination, right.
