I think they (Apple) either miscalculated how much they would sell on launch, or something slowed down production, or the shortage is a marketing gimmick to drum up demand...
Sweet! This just made my day. I just ordered through best buy and cancelled my apple order. Pencil arrives Tuesday 12/22.

Doubt it is a gimmick....they want your money, and if they don't have it in stock to sell you, no money.

It seems to depend on where the Best Buy is. Here in Champaign/Urbana the in store Apple Rep told me yesterday that they have not had any pencils in at all, ever, and the same for the keyboard. They do have the Logiteck keyboard, and the Apple case but those are the only accessories. They have only had two cellular iPad Pros in on the first day of sale and have not gotten anything but 32 GB unit since.
I hear Apple's having some supply chain issues. Hopefully, the newly-promoted COO can take care of this problem.

Wow. I ordered Saturday morning at 2:29am and received it 4pm Monday.
Did you choose expedited shipping? I did, it was supposed to be $20 more, but they didn't even charge me for it after all was said and done.
It is probably THE BEST peripheral for any Apple or Mac product I have every bought.

Yessir. And on top of that, I had a $30 Gift Card from BB for merely buying an HP Envy Printer back in June. So...$76 total for an overnighted Gift!!
Ha. Might as well be. They are being scalped on Ebay for triple the price. And from the looks of it, people are buying them! I ordered mine Friday and will be receiving it today via UPS.
