Apple Pencil loop on Logitech Combo Touch case is losing elasticity. Any tips for regaining some firmness when storing the pencil?

I have the first generation Apple Pencil.

So far, I have thought of:

- getting some tape to wrap around the Apple Pencil to make it thicker
- cutting the loop off and replacing it with a Velcro strip

Anything else worth considering?
