Apple Pencil on iPhone 7Plus

I'm fairly new to the iOs platform. I was an Android guy for almost 9 years so still learning the system. I've been reading about the upcoming iOs 11 upgrade and wanted to know if the Apple Pencil will work on the IPhone 7 Plus after the upgrade or would that require a hardware change? I'm also going to purchase a 12.9 iPad Pro tablet in the near future and will be getting a Apple Pencil to use with it.
