does anyone’s one forced to physically plug in Apple Pencil to iPad after ipas has been in sleep mode ? Did I get a broken pencil ?

Same here about three times now. Even happens from time to time when I charge it with the iPhone charger.

I thought it worked that way... This is like my third iOS device (iPod touch 6th Gen, iPhone 7 Plus for like a month lol and now this 10.5 inch iPad)
I think the pencil disconnects when its been inactive and the iPad simultaneously goes to sleep for a relatively long period of time. This is done to save battery.
If you connect it to the charger, it remains connected for a while but will loose connection if you leave it there for a long time (say charging from 20-100%). You'll then have to plug it in

I have to reconnect it all the time. Apple replaced my pencil once and it didn’t fix anything. It’s just how it works apparently.

I agree with this observation. In my experience, the Pencil will connect just fine with the iPad even if you have left it sitting for a few weeks. But if you leave it on the charger overnight, then most of the time you will need to plug it into the iPad to reconnect it.

Aside from that, I haven't noticed disconnection issues requiring me to plug the Pencil into the iPad to reconnect it.
