If you have multiple devices that use different pencils, what have you done?

If you use your pencil mostly for actual writing, like in a digital planner or note apps, which would you prefer?

I have the pencil 2 that I’m using with my iPP. I sold my 1st gen pencil to my sister with my 2018 iPad. I’m considering a mini 5, and don’t know if I want to get another first gen pencil, or just go Logitech crayon all around.

What differences would I notice? I don’t use the pencil daily; probably a couple/few times a week.

I have an 11 with pencil 2. I also had a 10.5 with pencil 1. Sold the 10.5 but kept the pencil. Bought a Mini and use pencil 1. I vote Apple Pencil (and you'll have to wrestle with two--but you'll carry the pencil around with it anyway) if only because the cases that accommodate the pencil generally only accommodate the Apple Pencil. Also, with one of those male to male pencil 1 adapters you can charge the pencil 1 with any lightning cable you're already carrying, vs micro USB for Crayon.

If you only need the tool for writing, scrolling, tapping, the Crayon should work, except for the mentioned case fitments and charging cable issues.

It's subjective... as with everything. :D

The Pencil 1 out-of-the-box is too slippery for me, but adding a skin to it (woodgrain Contact paper ftw) makes it nice to hold.

Because you'll have more than 1 Pencil-supported iPad, I recommend the Logitech Crayon. You'll be able to use it with both devices if you want to... and if you ever find yourself in a situation where you are taking both iPads, you only need to take the Crayon. I don't currently have a Crayon... I bought one for my Mom who has a 2018 iPad but I did try it for a bit and I like the feel of it.

I've been using my Mini 4 more frequently over the past few weeks and my original idea was to trade both Mini 4 and 2018 iPad and get a Mini 5. But I think I'll keep the 2018 iPad and get the Mini 5 and a Crayon to use with both. Because I use the Pencil primarily for notetaking and digital planners, I don't need pressure sensitivity.

Okay - one more thing. I looked it up to buy it, and what I'm reading says it is NOT compatible with the 2018 pros. Is that true?

The latest version of iOS 12, 12.2 added Crayon support for the 2018 iPad Pros. What is not certain is if it is compatible with the 1st and 2nd gen Pros.
