Werner Herzog, I only recall him from the Jack Reacher movie as The Zec and he barely did anything yet still came across as creepy - effective acting. I didn't know he did documentaries. This new addition is going to add wealth to the Apple TV+ line-up.

I'm bored of Netflix now so diving deeper into AppleTV+ and I'm glad the content is different and very refreshing.

Well, you won’t have to worry about the bends, since you'll be spending limited time at depth.

Or... don’t hit yourself head, it’s a pretty shallow pool.

Werner Herzog played "The Client" in "The Mandalorian". Nothing to do with AppleTV because it was brilliant.

Oh, he's done a lot. From his Wikipedia entry:
Werner Herzog made his first film in 1961 at the age of 19. [...] He was named one of the world's 100 most influential people by Time magazine in 2009
[...]
Between 1962 and 2019 Herzog has directed twenty fiction feature films, seven fiction short films and 31 documentary feature films, as well as eight documentary short films and episodes of two television series. He has also been the screenwriter or co-writer for all his films and for four others, and has appeared as an actor in 26 film or television productions.

Until the early 2000s, though, most of his movies were mainly popular on the art house circuit, so, in spite of this huge body of work and all the accolades that he got for it, his name was much better known among cinephiles and within the movie industry than among the average mainstream audience.

*Yawn* Who cares about Werner's opinion about how meteors have impacted anything? Apple's overall content, on average, has been unimpressive so far. Even Little America, which I tried to like, is plodding and lacking inspiration.

Judging from the responses here: Quite a few people. Don't make the mistake of thinking that everybody must have the same interests as you.

Yeah, all 15 people. Thank you so much for your sage insight. I feel transformed into a new person!

Reminds me of some of the Mayans beliefs. That scene in Apocalypto where the man is saved because the eclipse happens at the exact right time is insane.

You’re digging yourself into a hole. Just accept other people have different views than you.

I'm loving Apple TV+. Hit after hit after hit - no fluff, no garbage content, just greatness.

It's more of a mixed bag for me. I really like some of their programs, others are okay, and some just aren't my thing. But that's the way it is with every service out there, and it's perfectly fine. Others will have other preferences.

They haven't yet had a breakout must-see show with the impact of Game of Thrones or House of Cards, though. (Or, back in the days of linear TV, The Sopranos on HBO.) Something that captures the public imagination so much that people will subscribe just because of it. I'm sure they're working on content that's meant to do just that, and I hope they can manage.

Another vaguely eyebrow raising but ultimately forgettable show on Apple TV+.

They need their breaking bad / lost / game of thrones / ‘the boys’ / lord of the rings tv show.

Something compelling.

‘Foundation’ might be it.

Yeah, let’s judge without watching it. Good one!

Why are Apple TV shows all a single word?
What? Mythic quest, the morning show, for all mankind, Central Park, little America, amazing stories, defending Jacob, truth be told, Home before dark. Lol. I’m not seeing your point. Just because this show, See, Servant, home, and Dickinson are one word shows? Most of apple’s shows are two to three words.

So, you’re saying they need their Morning Show, Mythic Quest, or For All Mankind? Ah. I see.

None of those are *bad* shows, but they didn't have nearly the impact and reach of Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad.

Google Trends can be a good guidance for this. Look at this comparison of search interest. Game of Thrones dwarfs everything, and Apple's shows don't even register in comparison. And even if you remove Game of Thrones, Apple's shows still are pretty much a flat line in comparison to Breaking Bad alone.

There's nothing wrong with Apple's offerings, and it's perfectly fine to like them, but as of now, none of them have managed to become a universally recognized pop culture phenomenon. Which, again, is perfectly normal, because that's how it is for most programming on any service.

However, obviously Apple would love to have that kind of a hit show in order to bolster its subscriber numbers, which is why I fully expect them to add more high-profile shows on the coming months and years, in the hopes that one of them will really take off.

What an interesting topic!

Facts are so pesky to those trying to make a point without them.
