sorry, but i will leave the gouging of my wallet to the cable/satellite companys. Something that would make more sense is to allow you to parse out all the dang channels you don't want to watch and save the pipe. Apple and TV services = bad idea

Care to expand on that? What most of us are thinking is that apple would offer an a la carte type plan. None of us are sure, but at least that's the thinking.

my thought is more than likely apple will bundle all the stuff you don't want already in a package, and primo stuff will probably be in another band. I would prefer to cut out the chiller channel/oxygen/other 200 crap tastic channels on direct TV and just pay for channels i want to see thus saving pipeline. you already pay for channels you don't want, i don't see anything apple could bring to the table that would benefit the consumer, plus it also ties you into apple to get the content you can already get in better content and also have more options (DVR, etc) then will probably be allowed by apple.

I just can't see them doing this. This is the reason people are so fed up with their current content provider. Plus, they already offer the a la carte scheme in iTunes, so why would they change their own established distribution method?

i dont have or want cable

well someone needs to step up and allow people to choose which channels you want to pay for ( a small fee for each and choice to choose the HD version)

but those are small compared to my #1 reason for not having cable: YOU PAY FOR COMMERCIALS!!!

no thanks!! NEXT!

i buy a few itunes passes for the few shows i watch (in HD mind you) and save $100's+ oh and no commercials!

for Live stuff i have local digital OTA

time to move forward from old dinosaur cable and movie studios models! this is how old companies die or reinvent themselves.. sadly they still seem to be run by 100 yr old white guys stuck in the 20's

not my thinking. I suspect that this plan is going to be based off the same library they have now only on either a streaming or a kind of 'rental' system.

NOT that they are trying to be the next cable service. offering 5000 channels in packages etc.

I agree. To me this sounds like they're trying to offer a competitor to Netflix's streaming service, but with a better library and at a higher subscription price. They could also still sell content like they do today for those that would want offline access to videos.

I'm guessing that the technology behind the new service is the new HTTP live streaming that is advertised with QuickTime X. There's a demo of this at http://iphone.akamai.com/
