That's like saying I wouldn't by a car with out electric windows now. Well sure I had one before but seriously.....?

Car analogies are ridiculous to begin with, but at least pick a feature that makes sense (to the OP):

It's like having to use a key lock (Passcode!)
Then having the ability to use remote unlock (TouchID)
Then having the ability to unlock by just standing nearby (FaceID)

After googling for VCSEL 3d sensing a bit, i'm getting hyped.
This, combined with AR will be the next big thing.

Apple, please make the phone thick enough to have a big enough battery to power all this for more than 1/2 a day if used vigorously....

... and what are competitors rushing to develop? Under-the-screen touch sensors!

Once again, all taken pants down and looking the other way around.

Apple's advantage in AR will be so ridicolously huge it will not even be funny.

We can always rely on you for sweeping statements not based in reality ;)

Oh, it's finally happening....mwhahahaa!

With the iPhone being released next month, those orders were already placed long ago.

Not sure why MacRumors and others act like this is a device they just start building a week or so before release time. They start months before, which includes extensive testing of production devices, before stockpiling them before the launch. This has been the case since the original iPhone launch.

It's pretty clear you didn't read the MacRumors or the Loup Ventures article.

If you read it, you should have understood the $200m booking was placed in the April-June quarter. The con-call today was to discuss Q4 results.

No where does it suggest these orders were just placed.

Ahhh and here come more and more people suddenly SO EXCITED for the iPhone 8 and forgetting all about Touch ID.

Love it.

I am really appreciative of all the people on this site condemning the iPhone 8 and saying they wont buy it without Touch-ID. Leaves more 8's for the rest of us :)

I'm really excited about "iPhone 8". I just hope it's not priced as high as some have stated. Fingers crossed.

There's nothing to hope for. This iPhone 8 will obviously be better than the 7S and 7S Plus, which means that it will be more expansive than the 7S Plus. $1000 minimum and $1500 maximum. The Europeans can count on €1500+.

Apple will clearly out-market many beloved customers with the new iPhone. If you like IOS, then the 7, 7S or the SE are the only options!

It is so exciting:

-No more Touch ID, we do not need it. Instead we get face recognition. Our faces everywhere. And scanned with laser. Cool!
-No more app switcher with 3D Touch, we do not need it. Instead we get to double tap the home button. Oh but there isn't a home button... it's fine we do not need to switch apps anyway.
-No more audio jack. Who cares? We did not need it anyway. Instead we got the great looking and completely affordable wireless buds!
-No more access to settings within apps like Launcher. Who cares! We did not need that, instead we get to add a subset of settings in control center. Who really needed Launcher anyway, only the silly techies who want to add a few ridiculous tweaks to your already complete device.

And we will be able to save all our messages from iMessage to iCloud in 2018...They look so chick with all the million of emojis... Isn't that hot?

I almost forgot the traditional new wallpaper. At no extra cost!

Investors should be rushing to buy all the stock they can and cannot. This is the deal of the millennium.

It's so exciting, c'mon let's sing with joy.

I apologize if this question has been answered before, but what are the (in terms of rumors) supposed differences between the iPhone 7s & the iPhone 8?

I’ll be sad to see rich I’d go but not if it’s replaced with something as fast. I say as fast because touchid is basically instant now. We will have to see what we get to truly judge.

I’m over here asking what the excuse for usb c is. The common response is “lightning is only five years old”. Well, so I’d Touch ID. If they can abandon that for something better they can abandon lightning for usb c which is arguably better anyway. Just some musings. I don’t have my hopes up for usb c, and I will almost certainly buy this next phone just based on leaks thus far, but usb c alone would be an immediate buy for me on principle alone. I hate proprietary nonsense.

So what kind of a problem is this 3D sensing laser technology solving?

If it does have it, then it's solving Apples inability to get Touch ID to work under the screen... so, thing rumours say Samsung will launch next year on the Note 9 so they aren't the on,y Ines who can't do it. But then if finger p isn't sensirs u dear the screen are all ththe rate in the next couple of years, what's Apple going to do? Look old fashioned with face scanning tech?

Apple's advantage in AR will be so ridicolously huge it will not even be funny.

All the people will come out of the woodwork claiming "Apple didn't invent mobile AR you know!"

And nobody will care. Apple is never the first to do anything, but they are the first to bring it to the masses. I can't wait. If Apple is making a big change in something as important to them as the iPhone (⅔ of their entire business), I am encouraged that it will be amazing. They don't go into such things without a great deal of caution.

So is the basic consensus that Apple tried to implement TouchID under glass but couldn't, then decided to scrap the home button entirely and try to convince us face scanning is better? Seems too reckless, even for Cook's Apple.

Face scanning presents an easy way for law enforcement and thieves to unlock your phone without your consent.
Sunglasses, beards, niqabs all are going to present problems with usability.

Face scanning to unlock will have to be optional (like TouchID is) if the iPhone (Pro?) is going to be secure.

Maybe Apple is using terahertz radiation source to avoid the clothes problem, but I don't know if you can fit the source in an iphone.

This article gives a good indication of what we are going to expect. This iPhone launch is going to be massive. Its likely going to shatter any iPhone sales in the past. Only weeks away.

*If* it's priced correctly. Apple will undoubtedly add a premium to the price tag on top of the normal iPhone price. Don't be surprised if this is a $999 or $1099 phone for base model.
