I can buy a ceramic coffee mug at a garage sale for 10¢

$1000 for a teeny ceramic case shows just how amazing the Apple mind virus truly is.
I really abuse watches. I've got a history of destroying Suunto/Garmin/Apple Watches - except with the ceramic/sapphire which remains pristine. At least we know they can build a durable watch.

If you're talking about Apple Watch bands, they are actually more timeless than the watch. Because so far, any watch band will work with any generation of watch. So long as you have the right size band to with your watch. (38/40mm vs 42/44mm)
I'd argue that there's nothing timeless about an Apple Watch band. Time will tell.

Im wearing my Ceramic Series 5 watch now. I still love it and trying to squeeze out all it's worth. Going to be a shame when I replace it in the future.

Is ceramic the toughest material vs say titanium and ss ?

My ss graphite seems fairly indestructible so far 😆 touch wood*

A leather strap lasts less than 3 years? I'd argue with moderate care in 3 years a leather strap is just starting to "find itself". If you're tossing a $500 leather strap after 3 years send it to me. ;)

An Apple Watch in three years while functional is slow, and lucky to hold a 24 hour charge with any type of use above checking the time.
depends on the use (of watch and strap) :).

My point was - in the luxury item market not all stuff is lifetime invest like a Patek.
People spend money on all kinds of disposable expensive things that are worthless in the next season.

So an uplift of 100 USD for a titanium upgrade is small money in comparision and you can even recover part of it, if you resell your watch.

I have always wondered why Apple never released a black version of products also? Case in point is the AirPods. I really want to know what drives their single color decision for most products.
Branding. You can trace it back to the wired earbuds, which were a staple in iPod advertising campaigns and never changed colour regardless of that from the devices they came bundled with.

That also simplified SKUs, but as we’re now seeing for the first time in earnest with the new 24’’ iMac, colour-matched accessories and cables are clearly not a big challenge for Apple, so… branding it is, then. Your iMac remains at home or in the office, while you take your Apple earbuds, wired or otherwise, out and about, thus providing free advertising for them. ;)

Yes. It's one of my most prized posessions. I no longer wear it everyday (I have a Series 5 black aluminum now for my everyday watch). But the White Ceramic Series 3 Editions have held their value quite well.View attachment 1794034
Still have that one in grey - and the S2 before that in white. Must say I really liked the white - the grey in the end not so. Resale value for the white one was a joke - you must be prepared that that money is (mostly) gone, at the moment you buy an Edition.

If they did the ceramic Edition in matte black, it would be a strong contrast to the SS and very tempting!

Comparing the Apple Watch Edition to a coffee mug is like comparing a titanium medical implant to a municipal pipe. Ceramic is a very broad term that only indicates how the material was made.

Exactly. IIRC, Apple's manufacturing processes for that model, complete with a pressure-based powder moulding step and whatnot, made it more akin to high-end, high-precision, fine porcelain than your run-of-the-mill toilet implements or coffee mugs. :p

Heck, save for the slightly uneven gaps/gasket around it (and we're talking fractions of a millimetre here), even the ceramic back on my lowly S7 Nike model looks as good as that thing did as a whole. When the current entry-level models look as good as the high-end ones from but a few years ago, that just goes to show how far ahead of the pack they are.
