Apple Planning AI Home Security Camera and Service for 2027

Apple could release a home security system and service in 2027, according to Bloomberg.

The company is designing a privacy-forward home security camera that will "use AI to monitor the surrounding environment instead of actual video footage." It will apparently work with a new home security and monitoring service, but no additional detail on the service is included.

Apple is planning to release a home hub for controlling smart home devices before the end of the year, and rumors have previously suggested there's a camera in the works to go along with it. Early rumors indicated it would be a wireless camera with Siri integration and a connection to the home hub that's in development.

Apple already has HomeKit Secure Video, an Apple Home feature for third-party cameras. HomeKit Secure Video features end-to-end encryption and uses iCloud to securely stream and store video from compatible HomeKit cameras.

In iOS 27, Apple is upgrading its HomeKit camera features. The Home app is able to generate written summaries for motion alerts, plus it can surface highlights and group footage from different cameras together. The new features require a 2TB or higher iCloud+ plan, while HomeKit Secure Video requires a 50GB plan or better.

It's possible a future home security monitoring service could also be tied to iCloud+ and Apple's existing HomeKit Secure Video features.

Waiting to see the security cameras from Apple. Privacy will definitely be the main focus of Apple with a security camera. Disappointing that certain features are available only for the higher storage tiers of iCloud+

My Aqara G410 doorbell works pretty well as a no-drill battery-powered option for my townhouse (and cool that there's a HomeKit only mode so it doesn't have Internet access to any remote server but Apple's), but would be very interested to see how Apple's own design and features could work if that's still their plan along with this whole home security system.

Make it look like an iSight and I'll buy half a dozen. This was one of Apple's nicest industrial designs, way ahead of its time in design and technology. John Ternus has got to be chomping at the bit to return Apple to excellence in hardware. He's got the Macs nailed down, now let's see what he does in the consumer space.

Why let you use an old iPhone when they can sell you a dedicated camera instead?

The real reason is a WiFi camera can last a year on battery. An old phone you might get a day.

Go UniFi with CloudKey+with homebridge for HomeKit no monthly subscription needed. That’s what I did.

If your looking at arlo it’s garbage got rid of all 6 cameras for UniFi

Not sure about this, WiFi only and you have to pay a subscription to use it. They should offer local storage option for it. A lot of other options with no subscription. Still let's see what they come up with.
