I for one look forward to the deluge of ignorant/dogmatic/jingoistic comments that are bound to populate this thread like a biblical swarm of locusts.

Egypt is free now but I'm sure that won't stop people from saying "Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East" for the next 20-odd years.

The digital library thing sounds interesting. Would like to keep the ears open on this one.

Seems like a good place for it ... Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.

I've got a pocketful of sunshine... :)

Cool... So this has already gone from.

"Applestore in Israel"
to
"Israel bad"
to
"Israel's neighbors bad"
to
"Egypt bad"

Neat.

On topic... I very much doubt this article has any truth to it.

Apple in Israel

Having several Apple products I would be very happy if the rumor is true. If it is Apple's reseller Idigital forget it. No service, not even polite to customers, everything that Apple is, they are not.

Erm, so does this mean there will finally be Hebrew support in iOS and OS X?

There is Hebrew support in both...

Also, Jerusalem would be a silly place for an Apple store in Israel. It's a poor city, and doesn't have the massive tech presence of Tel Aviv or Hertzaliya. Israel could use a real Apple store (it is where a lot of the chips in macs are designed, after all), but it should be on the coast, in a modern city.

There already is. You need to turn on the keyboard in settings.

AppleInsider already ran this story and one of the comments made was that the paper is mistaken. iDigital are planning to open a store, not Apple.

This must be a joke. I'd have to agree that Tel Aviv would be the city of choice for an Apple store. I'm surprised to see there is no Apple store in Dubai yet.

Your entire post is one, giant troll. What does this have to do with the topic??

We can start with yours. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. There has not been one democratically held election held in Egypt since Mubarak fleed. Since Mubarak stepped down the Egyptian gov't has been run by a military oligarchy and handful of other non-elected representatives.

I think everyone hopes Egypt develops into a peaceful western-style democracy but until there is evidence of that, with elections and a meaningful constitution with real individual rights, Israel is still the only western-style democracy in the Middle East. I don't rejoice in that fact. It saddens me.

Wow, I wasn't the only one who thought of those two exact things…
SJ the AC? Hardly, but the infrastructure needs to be in place (even if directly unintended)… ;)

You need to actually hold a free election before you can be a "democracy". When Egypt gets that election thing done, give us a call. :)

Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions

Apple shouldn't put a store in Jerusalem. It is occupied territory. Apple should join the international boycott movement. The three key words are "boycott, divestment & sanctions:
