Removing this information will force people to find something else to obsess about. I would have rather seen Apple remove the battery health estimate than the former.

Would never show someone how to find the specs of their machine? I agree! They’d probably look it up themselves, then pretend like they performed some voodoo magic or something… ;0)
Also, some people who want to jailbreak use the serial number to determine which version of iOS will probably be preinstalled on their new device. They can try and find one on a version with an available jailbreak.Probably got sick of people returning their iPhones for having the wrong panel manufacturer or something.
This is great news for consumers who are passionate about privacy and secure communications. Apple continues to innovative in the privacy arena for our protection, and I love them for it.
You’re kidding right? I mean everything has a serial number and it has a meaning for a reason. Your car has a VIN and you can tell country of origin, manufacture, year and model by it. By doing this Apple is going to kill the resale market. You won’t be able to verify the product by serial number so you have to hope the model is legit.I’m so glad apple done away with this old archaic system! Good job Apple on the new move and IM SURE other COPYCAT COMPANIES will follow. Apple you are brilliant. Take THAT S******!
Yeah, tell that to the car manufacturers. They'd love to hear from you how they have no obligation to explain anything to anyone about the serial/VIN numbers.Although a serial number is hardly a feature and manufacturers have no obligation to explain the meaning of their serial numbers.
