So if the new OLED MacBook is going to be the Ultra does that mean that the MacBook Pro will stick around and continue with the 2021 era design and screen tech? The difference between the Pro and Ultra MacBooks would be OLED screen + Dynamic Island and Cellular ? Unless the form factor is significantly different (hopefully thinner and lighter) that doesn't seem like a lot to create an entire new Macbook line over....
Even more confusing is the plan to add OLED to MacBook Air in 2028/2089. Does that mean Air will have superior display tech to Pro?

If it was anything like a Fiio, I would buy it.

Exactly my idea. It should run iOS, but be actually optimised for audio. A powerful built-in DAC and amp, special high resolution audio (Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, etc) Balanced audio output, high impedence for big headphones.

And yeah, I like those FiiO players as well. But they are still very limited by Android or Linux.

But a Surface is different. You can flip the whole screen to basically turn it into a tablet right? my HP Laptop cannot be flipped into a convertable, its literally just a laptop with a touch screen
I think the key question on the touchscreen is how much does it add to the total cost. If low percentage wise then it can be considered something that is rarely used but handy for those very few times when a touchscreen might help. The very fact that many have posted right here that they've used touchscreens even on laptops that don't flip into a tablet means that such few useful times do exist. I don't mind features I don't use much as long as I don't pay much to get it. Apple may consider releasing this feature to be a way to test the water and get some real world feedback.

I never thought I wanted touch screen on my MacBook but I got a HP laptop from work with a touch screen now and I occasionally catch myself trying to tap the screen. I wasn't even aware I was using the feature but apparently I am. Mainly to open something from the dock when the mouse is too far away though or when I need to show something to someone else and slide through a PDF but I think that's about it.
Every once in a while I find myself touching the screen on my windows laptop to perform an action. I am then reminded that windows is poorly optimized for touch, imo.

Where do you go from Ultra when you finally make a better one?
Apple Watch Ultimate
CarPlay Extreme
iPhone Omega
Just keep calling it Ultra, each more Ultra than the last!
Pretty much. I think the whole idea of any 'ultra' product is to say that this isn't for most (not even most "professionals") but rather something for those with a little too much money that want to try out tech that might later make it's way into more mainstream products.

I thought MacBook Pros were getting redesign (remember Macrumors said not to buy M5 Pro/Max), but now it's only the specific ultra version getting the redesign?

That's a good thing. It means that many that wanted a new Pro won't have to suddenly pay way more than they have to get that. Options are good.

If they put OLED screen only in MacBook "Ultra" and not in Pro Macs, then it'd be so stupid and scummy from them, especially now when there's already a lot of laptops and even tablets with OLED screens.
Just another way to get more money from customers while offering other ALSO EXPENSIVE products with outdated hardware (not talking about SOC).

I have no interest in a touch screen Mac. The whole notion of having greasy fingerprints all over the screen makes me batty. My screen OCD would kick in and I would look something like this all the time.
